What do you think about Mcallister for a future captain. ?
{Ed001's Note - Gary is a bit old now but I don't think he is busy at the moment so maybe. If you mean Mac Allister (I know being a pedant but it was just for the crap gag) then I would have my worries as he has made it clear that he sees himself moving elsewhere in the long term. I would say Elliott looks to be the right choice. Excellent attitude and workrate, experienced and wants nothing more than to win things with Liverpool.}

Did mac not mean when talking about going elsewhere that he going back to boca juniors at some stage in his career? I presume that would be in twilight of his career.

It takes a lot more than being a top player (which Mac10 is, IMO) to be captain. And if he does have dreams of playing for a specific team (s) some time down the line then indeed, I would pass.
The capt. should be one who loves the club dearly preferably a boyhood fan, if possible and has no intention of moving to fulfill some dream cos well, he is currently fulfilling said dream right now like Trent.

Also, I agree with you about Elliot but I’d think Curtis Jones would be in contention too perhaps.

Agree with you there Ed001. My picks for the next couple of first team captains are Trent (once VVD hangs up his boots, hopefully not for at least a couple more seasons) and then Elliot.
There may even be an argument for Elliot next as Trent will be late 20s by the time Virg steps back, but it would be hard (sentimentally) to overlook Trent being a fan from birth and a scouser.
It's great that we have so many leaders in the squad again. We always thought we would struggle losing Hendo, Fab etc in one foul swoop. But with Virg, Trent, Mac, Endo, Szob, Mo etc we have a whole crop of players who are national captains and or have been here ages so we have leaders all over the pitch.

Never know that Ed. Where does he want to move in the future? Is it one of Spanish team or Boca Juniors? I did read about him wanting to go back to Boca at the end of his career.

I didn’t know that he doesn’t see us as his long term future eds1. That’s a bit gutting but like you said with players like Elliot there who will give everything for the club we are in a good place going forward.

Elliot captain?! Unfortunately don’t think he will ever become a key starter in the team. Just doesn’t have the pace to play on the wing or the size and strength to play in the middle. Nice little player but more of a squad player imo.

It was definitely boca juniors. He was commenting how similar boca and lfc fans are, thatt they best fans in there respective countries. He said i think that he only got playing 1 season for boca and would like sometime to play for them again.

I think looking at our squad we have leaders all over the pitch.
You could say similar about City and now even Arsenal over the last couple of seasons (but not as many as us)
Then there’s Utd who actually look leaderless all over the pitch.
I don’t think we can underestimate the impact of having so many leaders does.

To be fair to Mac he said that he’d like to finish his career at Boca, which is fair enough. I don’t think that’s him itching to go to Spain.
As for captain, what about Joe Gomez. He’s been here ages, he’s a well respected member of the squad and he’s not a shrinking violet.

Can’t look past Curtis for captain. He’s not afraid to speak up on the pitch and if you look at some of the times he’s had his arm around Darwin and the kids coming through just recently I think he’d be perfect.

It was only last weekend some Everton players were saying they dream of winning another premier league game. Fair play to them they’ve certainly set the bar high as I’m not sure it’s achievable ?.

What makes a fan base the ‘best fans in the world’. It’s an interesting question.
If it’s the fans that create an atmosphere in the stadium that makes it easier for their players to play and more difficult for the opponents then I’d say we are up there with the best fans in the world. Too many top managers say that Anfield is the most difficult place to play for it not to be true.
But then you look at idiots chucking stuff at buses and that drags down the rest of us.
It also depends on what state the team are in. Whilst Hodgson was in charge our fans made it difficult for our own team and Anfield was anything but a fortress. Same before Rodgers left.
You just have to spend 5 minutes scrolling this site and you will see some who are enjoying being where we are and supporting the team and others that are moaning about some misplaced passes in an away European game when we won 5-1.
Arsenal fans are famed for their negative outlook but lately they are creating a good atmosphere because their team is doing well.
City fans are just always quiet but mostly they’re at home in their armchairs.

What's your thoughts on Quansah as a future captain? I feel he doesn't really get the recognition his performances deserve and he is learning off one of the best CB's in the game, potential?
{Ed001's Note - because he is still inexperienced so it is hard to tell as he is alongside someone else being brought along. He has not had to step up and lead yet.}

I don’t personally think we are the best fans in the world.
All clubs have great fans, negative fans, fans that travel every home/ away game or watch from home etc.
We waited years for a league title but there’s fans out there who support their club every week having never seen them win anything or hardly won a game.
All football fans are unique and the fact we make out like we’re the best in the world probably tells you why most clubs fans don’t want us to win things.
