Hi Eds,

Have Liverpool shown any interest in Lewis Bate? The kiddie from Chelsea?

Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Two clubs have approached Chelsea. But not Liverpool at this time.}

19 Jul 2021 23:19:14
Not that I’m a lover of social media rumours but I think he’s recently followed the whole Leeds team…. Seems fishy!

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2021 08:56:22
Seen a few reports too apparently the kid doesn't see a path to the first team.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2021 10:44:18
The chance of Bate going to Liverpool is unlikely because the teenager, while full of respect for Jurgen Klopp’s side, would see such a move as leaving him in a similar position there to the one he’d face if he stayed with Chelsea.

I know we are doubting this Hendo news because it seems so far fetched and unbelievable but it genuinely seems like it has legs. Maybe not the transfer part of it but there's no doubt contract talks have stalled.

This has been confirmed by:

James Pearce, David Ornstein, David Maddock, David Lynch, Neil Jones and also Paul Joyce.

Paul Joyce, James Pearce and Ornstein are very reliable when it comes to Liverpool news, Joyce seemingly only reporting on something when it is true. Also Pearce and Joyce are Liverpool correspondents and Ornstein writes for BBC Sport.

Worrying times.

{Ed025's Note - its something and nothing MM, there is no rush mate..

19 Jul 2021 19:52:21
Worrying times for who? Not this guy as in, me. Hendo will get what he deserves and besides he has 2 yes left on his deal so as Ed25 and many others have said, no rush. Enjoy the preseason.

A mountain out of a mole hill, this is a man who fought too and nail to prove Brendan wrong. A man who fought to be captain. A man who led us to number 6 and number 19. And that's before all is charity work. As long as we as fans and the club shows we want him the lad will stay.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Henderson will be harder to replace then Gerrard for the role he has with his team mates and the club.

I truly believe he could take his first steps into coaching with us but there is little rush with two years left to tie him down. The journos are whipping up a frenzy by repeating what one said to not miss out on the 'story'.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - im gonna get a load of hate for this but I don’t think hendo should get a 5 year contract. We can’t have a plethora of thirty somethings on big contracts with no re-sale value. It’s just not good for business. I love hendo like he was my son but good business decisions aren’t based on sentiment. He’s missing swathes of games through injury which isn’t gonna get better over the coming months and years. If he accepted a 2 year contract that would be a happy medium in my opinion. Ok I’m ready for the vitriol peeps bring it on.

19 Jul 2021 21:23:44
I'd agree that I wouldn't automatically give him 5 years. This year has shown injuries etc. But I'd increase it by an additional year and look at paving the way into his latter years and eventually retirement. Milly is here until he is 36 and hendo seems to have the same mindset in terms of fitness and determination. I'm sure a compromise will be found.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 22:15:18
3 years is a fair compromise, then add a year on at a time a la Milner.

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 22:22:30
Has he asked for 5 years or are ye just speculating?

If he has asked for 5 years though, that's too much if he's to get a nice chunky wage. 3 years on big money and in 18 months see about chatting again. He has had injuries so I don't think 5 years on big wages would make sense, there should be no need for it anyway, why would he not be happy with 3 years.

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 22:35:48
Has he asked for 5yr contract?
His current contract runs out when he’s 33. He can’t be expecting another 5 on top.
A couple of years added on seems reasonable.

19 Jul 2021 21:16:07
I completely agree with ed0666.

{Ed0666's Note - Will you marry me???

19 Jul 2021 21:29:37
That’s what I have been saying all day ed0666 his missed 22 weeks over the last 2 season so his got 2 years left he needs to prove his body can cope as he goes into his 30s. So let him see how this season goes if he misses arge parts of the season let him run down his contract or sign a pay as you play deal. I see people talking about Salah but the guy never seem to miss a game like Gini he did not have the best of season but I don’t blame him for not being 100% because if he got a bad injury he would not of got a club till fit and not the sort of deal he got.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - will you marry me aswell?

19 Jul 2021 22:28:08
100% Ed0666. He'll be 33 when this one ends. 12 month rolling contract after this one. Either accept it or thanks very much Jordan for your service.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - sounds harsh but you can’t have a bunch of thirty somethings on long contracts.

20 Jul 2021 07:08:38
Agree with Ed 0666.
All things must pass.
In the end, in business (and sport), pragmatism must win over sentiment and emotion.

As much as we all love our captain (s) be it Hendo, Stevie or Ron Yeats, in a few years time someone else will have taken the armband and will receive our entire respect.
(I retired this year. change is inevitable, just accept it.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2021 09:46:54
If he has asked for a 5 year deal, it will supercede his current deal, so would be a 3 year extension. He might be pushing it a bit, but he's our captain and I'm assuming he's aiming for a retirement contract. Give him the deal.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Jul 2021 09:54:12
Agree with Ed. We need to be prioritising his replacement not giving him a 5 Yr contract. Great leader miss him when he is not in the team.

Completely agree with you ED0666.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 16:27:37
So we don't want to give hendo a contract now. If i say something on this, with regards to the american ownership, id be termed xenophobic.
This shouldn't even have been news. Hendo doesn't even need to ask for it, he deserves whatever deal he wants and am pretty sure he isn't asking for the moon and stars.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - he still has 2 years to go Akira so there is no rush, he will be at liverpool for a good while yet mate..

19 Jul 2021 17:08:58
Well maybe go read first, no one is saying we don't want to give hendo a contract, talks started awhile ago and no conclusion yet, he's still 2 years left on his current deal so there's also no rush. Nowhere has any report said we don't want to give him a contract. Not like Liverpool fans to jump the gun or have no patience now is it. holy christ.

Agree4 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 17:10:07
Or maybe FSG aren't the ones who decide whether or not to hand out new contracts to the players? The owners have done plenty wrong in there time here but these baseless digs feel more like you wanting to have a go at the ownership instead of any substantial criticism.

Agree5 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 17:14:11
Have you read the article? It's speculative fluff with loads of 'coulds' and 'possibles' in it and parallels drawn to Wijnaldum (despite the fact that Hendo already has a contract until he's 33 whilst Gini's ended when he was 30.Suggesting the club views Hendo differently) .

If you joined the #FSGout crowd on Twitter over this, I wouldn't accuse you of being xenophobic, I'd accuse you of being a twit.

Plenty of things with which to take issue with FSG without going at them over absolutely nothing.

Agree6 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 17:25:15
I posted about these earlier and I said I love Henderson I hope he stays as long as possible but I don’t think we should offer him a contract these summer we should see how he goes over the next 18 months. Last season Henderson was injured for 12 weeks and the season before 10 weeks and if this carries on it would be very silly of the club to give him a longer contract and tie up wage budget on a player as he enters the final part of his career and starts to miss more than he plays. The club needs to be run with a head and not a heart Bob paisley was very ruthless in that way and that’s what kept us at the top and Fergy was the same at Utd.

Agree4 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i think hes important in the dressing room grino and even when he finishes i expect him to still be part of the furniture mate, he could still play on past his contract on a lower wage or even pay as you play basis, there are options i feel..

19 Jul 2021 17:27:53
It's comical how people can interpret an article like that into sold fact that is definitely happening.
Even after all the years of people acknowledging crap on Tw@tter and clickbait sites, they're still gullible enough to believe the crap they read.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 17:31:09
Loyalty is over rated. IF Hendo can carry on like Milner the sure, and if not, in two years time perhaps he can make his long awaited move to Fulham.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 17:33:17
Don't get all jumpy on this news. It's probably sensationalised to get attention. If we can keep Milner who is 35, I'm pretty sure we can keep Hendo if his demands are reasonable. So, I'm confident we'll get things sorted out in the near future.

If true, isn’t this a dream come true for you mr. sideways Henderson!

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 19:20:25
I agree how important he is ed025 I hope he stays fit and in the team am just saying with his injury record there is no rush to renew his contract. Let him carry on with his contract for at least this season to check his injuries out if he stays fit most of the season then give him a new deal but if he keeps getting long injuries then some sort of pay as you play deal can be sorted out if not let him play his final year out at let him have a free transfer to get a good deal somewhere else but missing 10 and 12 weeks a season is to much if it carries on.
We could have sold Origi after the champions league victory and got a good fee for him more than what he was worth as his value had gone up after a few important goals but instead we ran the club with are heart and give him a new contract and he has hardly played his value has gone down by at least half.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 18:12:52
If Liverpool were reluctant to give Gini Wijnaldum a big new deal, and he played every single game, it’s not a huge shock that they’re in a similar boat with an often-injured Jordan Henderson.

Agree3 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 20:16:33
Plus Henderson is only on £140k/ w. It’ll likely be one of his last contracts and he could probs get double if not a bit more elsewhere.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 20:42:16
It’s Klopp who didn’t want to keep Gini.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 21:19:00
@fuser, Hendo would not get £300k a week somewhere else. He's got 2 years left on his contract, he's not a free transfer where clubs pay higher wages as they don't have to pay a transfer fee.

@markp, Klopp wanted to keep Gini, 100%.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 22:17:09
Sean, Klopp tried to sell Gini 2 years ago. If Klopp wanted Gini he would have stayed.

If we are signing 5 of our best players to contracts leading them into age 33-34
We are hoping for more than a little luck

5 players + a 35 year old Henderson on > £10m a year contracts

Peak title winning age is 27-28.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - age is just a number spaceman, these days players, even the more experienced ones are as fit as butchers dogs mate..

20 Jul 2021 07:05:55
@seanireland, Henderson is definitely in the same bracket of player as Kante/ Saul etc and they are and have been for years on contracts of 300k. Hendo’s age is now against him slightly but you can’t say if Utd/ PSG/ Real/ etc signed him tomorrow he wouldn’t be on 200-250 at least.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2021 20:33:57
@fuser, you said double £140k or more in your post. Now you are dropping to a more realistic £200k which is fair enough, I could definitely see that.

@markp, in my opinion Klopp really liked Gini and wanted to keep him. I believe he understood the clubs reluctance to commit to a big wage and a long-term contract from a business sense but I think he would have preferred to have kept him. In terms of trying to sell him 2 years ago I presume that's Keita replacing him - Gini played almost every minute the season just gone and Keita was barely used when available.

Rumours of Brighton looking at Phillips as a replacement for White.

Good luck to him if he goes, Potter is a great manager and I’m sure will help him improve.

Bissouma + £10m 😉😂.

Could do a deal were they get Phillips plus cash for Bissouma. I know, right? If life was that simple, it wouldn't be tough.

All this talk of looking outside of the EPL for bargains suggests otherwise, but surely buying EPL proven is the way. I'd be more than happy with Biss.

News coming out that fsg are stalling on a new deal for hendo because of his age.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

19 Jul 2021 10:48:18
I've just asked the Eds about this. Unless you have a source from the club, the 'news' seems to be coming out of tabloids who are no doubt eager to find something to write about!

Fingers crossed that it is just 'noise' and not 'news'

Agree5 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 10:54:19
If I understand correctly then something like that wouldn't come from FSG? It'd come from the management team, FSG wouldn't have/ want a say on things like that.

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 13:13:17
The fact that they're even talking with a decent amount of term left in his current deal is an encouraging sign that the club really wants him to stay. They just aren't going to give him the first thing he asks.

Agree6 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 13:17:58
It’s from an article in the Athletic written by Pearce and Ormstein.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 13:23:42
OP, it is a nothing burger of a story. Check the thread Zed opened on the Banter page. Hendo will retire a Red. Have a great summer, man. They claim Aleti and PSG are interested in him Would that be the same Atleti who just signed DePaul to replace Saul or the same PSG who just signed Gini? Exactly.

Oh one last thing, FSG do not handle anything that has to do with recruitment or player deals. They don't decide who comes in and who goes. That is the job of those who run the day to day operations at Liverpool Football Club i. e Michael Gordon, Billy Hogan, Micheal Edwards and well, you know the rest. Just thought I should point that out. Happy Summer 2021 to you.

Agree3 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 14:05:49
I read the Athletic article and I agree, there isn't any hard evidence pointing to an imminent departure. It's just a lot of loose dot connecting with parallels to Gini's situation. They're filling the void of the summer with a provocative story. With that said, I don't believe it's a given he's here beyond his deal. This is just how it goes when you have an aging star player.

Agree4 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 14:11:24
Did FSG forget to buy Hendo a cake last month and now he has the hump?

Agree3 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 15:08:07
It seems very much like other sources have taken the Athletic article and used it as a basis to generate clicks etc for their own sites.
The links between Hendo and PSG/ Atletico are tenuous at best. It states that Pochetino has praised Hendo in the past and that he’s still friends with Suarez. Hardly concrete links.

Agree4 Disagree0

19 Jul 2021 22:20:45
There is no comparison between Hendo and Gini, one is a captain a leader both on and off the pitch. One was our best player when we won the title and got PFA player of the year. One got an MBE for his charity work. The other plays for PSG.
