Good luck staying cool today everyone.
For those who can, little tip i got yesterday was to open your loft hatch - just another way of letting the hot air up and out.

{Ed001's Note - how hot is it there?}

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2022 08:30:51
It depends where you are, Ed. We're down Cornwall on holiday and it's expected to reach 29 degreez 5?s. More than warm enough but not excessive.

{Ed001's Note - doesn't seem worth opening a loft hatch for 29c.}

18 Jul 2022 08:57:10
Not that hot. I’m currently sitting outside in a fleece lined jumper with a warm cup of tea. Yes I’m sure it’ll be warmer later but it’s nothing like being in Spain etc - this time of day you’d already want to be in a cool pool there.

18 Jul 2022 09:03:58
Expected to hit 39 / 40 in places today and tomorrow.

{Ed001's Note - hardly the worst then. Brits are so pathetic about weather. No matter what temp it is people moan!}

18 Jul 2022 09:52:12
We don't have the infrastructure to deal with the heat here. No one is moaning that I know, except some folk who don't like heat and there'll be people like that in hot countries. Our houses are designed to keep in as much heat as possible, not keep it out. We don't have A/ C for the most part.
Most Brits will be loving it - why do you think we go abroad to Spain, Italy, Greece and Turkey?
Please don't call us pathetic. Not sure if you are from the UK or just live elsewhere, but 40 is quite hot wherever you are.

{Ed001's Note - sorry but Brits are pathetic about the weather. We do nothing but moan about it. Having houses built to keep heat in is not an issue, it is the lack of thought Brits put into everything. They will throw open all the windows and doors meaning heat will come in, rather than keeping the curtains shut and stopping that greenhouse effect. Most people in hot countries don't have AC or the money to go and buy fans etc to cope but they just get on with it.}

18 Jul 2022 09:54:43
That comes down not pleasing all the people all the time ed1. I'm sure it might be tough for the older generation but everyone else could suck it up and be sensible if necessary.
Just don't be going out doing any gardening etc. There's enough bad days for that nonsense. Outside, under a parasol, nice cold beer and relax. That's my plan. I've had harder Mondays to be honest ?.

18 Jul 2022 10:06:38
Funny how things change. When we lived in Holland we had a rule that if the the temp got to 20 degrees (Celsius) they could swim in the river at the back of the house. Living in Australia they wear pullover and coat now until it gets to 30 degrees??.

18 Jul 2022 10:18:21
Both "Brits moan about the weather" and "Brits don't have the infrastructure or planning for extreme weather conditions" are true. I am always fascinated seeing how us Brits lose all sense when the sun comes out. Sunscreen, hydration, parasols are not for us Brits and heatstroke is a just a hangover, right? We're a mad bunch.

{Ed001's Note - exactly mate, mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun is so true.}

18 Jul 2022 10:26:25
Try living on a narrow boat in anything above 30. It's like a furnace. Keeping windows closed on a boat over a certain outside temperature is dangerous. Brits may be pathetic, but we're not used to these temps. 40 degrees is nuts. You have tiled or darkened houses and small windows in Dubai yes? For those without a/ c I mean. And humidity isn't the same is it? It's fine because it'll only be a couple of days, but people, animals and plants will die because of it. Like I said, we're just not used to it. Hence, record temperatures.

{Ed001's Note - fair enough on a narrow boat it might be different but that is not a common place to live. As for Dubai, the windows are huge but usually covered. I am not in Dubai now though. Here windows are always covered but the humidity is intense.}

Not good for exercising in and playing footy though.
The stadia in Qatar have to be air conditioned.
Must be a terrible carbon footprint.
Those Gulf states are amongst the worst for carbon footprint per head of population.

{Ed001's Note - I thought it was being played in winter as they couldn't air condition them?}

18 Jul 2022 11:12:35
Arguing about weather ??? I have to agree, brits are a bit of a joke when it comes to hot weather or snow!

{Ed001's Note - mind I did complain about the cold when I had a stopover in Oslo. It was -15 and I had to walk from the plane to the terminal and I am sure the pilot deliberately parked as far away as possible so I would have to walk through the snow in t shirts, shorts and flip flops as I was flying between Spain and Dubai. Never been so cold in my life. It was painful.}

18 Jul 2022 11:54:47
It's 32 degrees all day, everyday here on Malaysia.

18 Jul 2022 12:28:21
It’s hot. It’s damn hot. You got a window? Open it!

18 Jul 2022 12:30:27
Nice Noel Coward plug there, Ed. Very apt.

{Ed001's Note - very.}

18 Jul 2022 12:41:25
My pool is 32.5 degrees and i live in Spain. Can't complain. Be moaning in the winter when it's 16'c.

18 Jul 2022 12:49:04
I prefer the cold me, don’t complain about the heat like but nothing better than dark nights and mornings I struggle to sleep and the light paired with the birds squawking at insane hours doesn’t pair well.

18 Jul 2022 13:09:20
I think the hottest I've worked in is high 40's when I did a stint in Central and West Africa. It's brutal. Regardless of where you live, it can be pretty dangerous if you don't know the signs of heat stroke/ exhaustion. Just got to be sensible, drives me mad seeing people walking their dogs in the middle of the day.

18 Jul 2022 13:13:02
late to the game
but where i come from, our daily, 365 days in a year, is 30 degrees Celsius, sometimes even at night
thats why we tend to jet off to winter countries if we can afford it and its a joy to us, whilst we hear Europeans go in the opposite direction as they can't stand the cold

a funny world we live in

note: so try imagining the players playing in that kind of heat and humidity in their recent southeast asian tour, then consider the local leagues play in that weather, i don't know how we can stand it but we somehow do with time.

How about living in a city (in India) that has 40-45 degrees minimum every single day for 3 months, during the summer? And on the days it goes beyond 50 degrees, all digital weather apps say it's only 48, because by law the Government has to declare a public holiday on the day it registers 50 degrees and above - no government can afford giving their employees any days off!

Imagine getting out of a cold shower, wiping yourself off and you're again dripping with sweat within 3-5 minutes (nobody puts an a/ c in the bathroom) .

it's all relative.

I was driving down the M1 this afternoon and had the window open, so decided to stick my arm out. Usually sitting at 70mph creates enough of a wind flow to cool the skin off, but this was like putting my arm into a fan oven. Absolutely mental. No relief from the heat at all, in fact it was worse!
Windows up, aircon on job. I don't like air conditioning much, but the alternative was literally to slowly cook like a Sunday dinner.
And tomorrow is meant to be hotter still!

19 Jul 2022 07:49:28
im not moaning about the heat as love it even had a game of 7 aside between 6-7pm yesterday. i lived in Spain for 15 years and it is very different depending where you live. In Spain i was 5 minutes from the beach and surrounded by hotels with pools we could use. My apartment had tile floors air con ceiling fans in bedrooms. Here in UK my house has carpets loft is insulated and i can tell you my house here was far hotter yesterday than my apartment ever was in Spain. But would still take this weather over rubbishty cold and rain any day of the week.

Ed001, it's not Brits, its the British media, worst media in the world, esp Sly News and that other Rag, CONSTANT SCAREMONGERING ALL DAY EVERYDAY, can't UNDERSTAND WHY THEY don't GET REGULATED PROPERLY AND FINED FOR THEIR LIES A#.
