Not Liverpool related, but the manager must be having second thoughts about having Salah last penalty taker, what was he thinking, didn't even get to take his pen.

{Ed0666's Note - penalties are a lottery mate there was no guarantee the great man would have scored.

Agree0 Disagree0

You usually want someone who can handle pressure going last, if there’s pressure on the last pen.

06 Feb 2022 23:27:44
Yeah agree on both your points guys, but he must have some feelings towards not getting a kick before shoot out was over, can be so many permutations as you say tho, great for both our boys to reach another final.

Even your best penalty taker can miss their penalty, whether they go first or last. It really doesn't matter when they take it. If they go last and don't get to take it- your team wasn't good enough.

Only thing that used to annoy me was Ronaldo wanting to go last so that he could celebrate like it was all him who won Utd/ Real/ Portugal the cup.

I'd say the top guys would prefer to go 5th, it is the glory pen after all. Cokes with risks obviously. Also, did anyone see a $400k/ week player out there?
👀🤣.

{Ed0666's Note - are you serious right now? You judge him on one game when the guys been world class for 5 seasons? Salah has played I think 7 games in a very short period of time at AFCON 3 of which went to extra time and penalties and not forgetting the 25 plus games he’s already played this season for Liverpool. Would you produce sparkling soccer in that scenario? You think Ronaldo is worthy of his wages at United he’s not even a third of the player Salah is at this moment in time. I’m all for constructive criticism but your just being disrespectful.

Liverpool would hammer Egypt. Salah is works class but 1 vs 12 is no match. The Egyptian left back, for instance, wouldn’t look out of place in a pub team.

07 Feb 2022 08:15:58
I think Salah would 100% have had a say in which penalty he was to take.

07 Feb 2022 08:29:28
Salah is unbelievable player but like most of the modern players they need a system to suit them and Salah is no different.

As an attacker it's a dream to play for Klopp and I hope MO realizes that coz he wasn't even near in he's previous club's. Let's hope both LFC and MO can come up with solution which suits both parties.

Coz he can play a vital role when we are going in transition and still be competitive and young players learning from him that can only be good for our future.

Faithinworks your last few comments for a Liverpool fan are very strange mate. We all have our opinions but come on let’s not rip our best players!

07 Feb 2022 10:14:18
OP, Ed is correct here, IMO. Sadio Mane is terrible at penalties at the AFCON and even missed one last night in regulation as well yet he scored the final penalty. In the end, it is a lottery.

IMO, I don't like the fact that a more trusted pen taker takes the last one. Why? Cos he may not even get to take one. On the contrary, I actually agree that they should go first cos that way, you already potentially, have his penalty banked. Just my take.

07 Feb 2022 10:40:33
Not at all triple6. I think Salah is great and of course I expect blow back for my opinion lol. But for a guy who wants to be paid that much, I'd be expecting far more than what he has been giving us and for the remainder of his contract. This is the kind of convo best had over a beer rather than on text and perhaps during a game, cos can better explain. For now don't get ys knickers in a twist, Salah is great we need him but I'm just saying he can be even more influential than he is.

Salah is playing in an average defensively minded team with Egypt.
They played a better side in Senegal, too.
He was on his own for a lot of last night's game, so to criticise him is unfair.

07 Feb 2022 11:22:42
Rigsby, Salah was on his own in that Egypt team with pretty poor players and an incompetent, has-been manager in Queiroz. It's a small miracle they even made the final as they required 3 penalty shoot out sessions to get there.

07 Feb 2022 11:48:41
Looking at Salah with Egypt, how could he soar like an eagle when he was surrounded by turkeys.

07 Feb 2022 13:04:01
Faithinworks, i don’t think you quite seem to understand that football is a team game. No player, however great, can achieve anything without at least competent footballers around them. You need players to play measured, well timed passes to you and to use their movement to create space for you.

Not only were the other Egypt players absolutely not interested in helping Salah at all, the tactics were some of the worst i’ve ever seen deployed by any coach ever. It’s no secret that Carlos Quieroz is a terrible coach but that was actually shocking. Pumping hopelessly inaccurate long balls into the channels for Salah to chase on his own was never going to work, it’s a miracle he was able to create a couple of chances for himself at all, such was the cowardice from those around him.

I don’t think a single one of the great players from history would have been able to make a fist of that. It’s not FIFA, you can’t just dribble through 8 players with a few flicks of a joystick, it doesn’t work that way. I don’t know what more it is you think he could have done. Bizarre take.

07 Feb 2022 14:10:22
Jeez, Salah is great but he can't do it on his own. He was literally isolated up front playing for Egypt, picking off scraps. I mean any forward would have struggled, not just Salah.

07 Feb 2022 14:17:37
Absolutely spot on AW. Salah can't do it alone. Their team and their tactics were gobsmacking. I said to my son last night 'a lower end championship side would destroy these'. Just because Salah is their best player he can't have the finger pointed at him when he's surrounded by absolute rubbish.

07 Feb 2022 15:28:49
We play a game that suits salah mane robbo and taa it’s benefits them! Salah is still a great player but a lot is stemmed from how we set up and play!

09 Feb 2022 21:33:15
AW - no I understand the concept of team just fine and is actually why I'm ok whether Salah stays or whether he goes. Because, like you say, the team is the key to bringing out the strengths in players. I am just saying, for the money and standing in the game that Salah and his reps seem to think he deserves, then I am expecting a guy who is far more influential and improves his team mates. yes even more than he does. that doesn't mean I am saying he is useless now, that is just mis-representing what I am saying. There are stretches of games, long stretches in a game when you wouldn't even know he is on the pitch. Just saying I'd like to see more from a prospective 400k/ week player.

{Ed0666's Note - you can’t be watching the same player as most other people. How can he be more influential? When he’s not scoring goals, creating goals he’s working his gonads off. If there’s anyone in world football that deserves his bumper new contract it’s Mo Salah!
