I see many posts about the tactics being useless, yet those tactics have gotten us to 3rd place on the table, but all have valid points.
My gripe is with Klopp currently. I'm not bemoaning the tactics, I'm bemoaning the fact that anyone could see that we lacked width yesterday, and we waited till the 65th minute to change that.
Why didn't he change to a 442 with overlapping wingbacks? We made it too easy for Luton by going down the middle all the time.
I love Klopp, but I think his insistence on the inverted fullback tactics is holding us back. He should have changed the system in the 1st half.

They were trying to sueeze one through the middle and did that untill the 65th minute. We have the "Zidanes and Gerrards" in the mdifeld according to many. so its normal to play majority of the football throguh them and not the full backs.

JLC, spot on. We had no width was DUE to the inverted rubbish which is the hill Klopp will sit on regardless how many times it hurts us. Or should I say persisting with the tactics that clearly was not working. This whole inverted fullback stuff is a problem and once again, we have seen what persisting with it blindly can do.
Anyone watching the game could have known that by inverting, we were playing too narrow and clogging up the middle where Luton wanted us to be BUT we kept persisting with it whereas we all saw that the right side was where the space was. Had we had TAA at RB early on, he would have provided the width and created triangles with Szobo and Salah to stretch Luton. None of that happened till Elliott came on late on. That's the problem.

Valid position, JLC. Narrow formation on a narrow pitch and it took 65 mins to change it.
Trent’s position the whole game was maddening. It’s almost as if he inverted more and more as the game went on.
And even after Tsimikas was put on, every pass to him was behind him, to his right foot.
Needs sorting.

ED1, do you know why Wataru has not been given chance to play as 1st choice DM in PL games? Is it the case of Klopp not convince with him yet because if that is the case then he would not started game in Europa and EFL Cup. Surely this Macca as a DM experiments need to stop at one point.
{Ed001's Note - they are trying to play Mac Allister as a creative DM in there alongside the inverted full-back. With Mac Allister having a 1-game ban for 5 yellows not, hopefully that will mean that Endo will get a chance now. Or Trent goes in there and they scrap the inverted full-back maybe? Or even Trent goes there and Gomez plays as an inverted right-back.}

Ed01, we are inverting, mate. It is what it is, IMO. I hope Im wrong but I don't see any change coming which is mad cos at the end of the day, this formation is literally a menace to us way more than the opposition is sadly BUT I don't see things changing. Just saying.

I just don't get it, we nearly scored in the first 5 minutes when trent was out wide, he played a great ball in and Jota nearly got a tap in, then he just came further inside as the game went on.

Ed01, you're preaching to the choir, man. I have been very consistent on being fully against this tactic so I don't like it any more or less than you do.
Im just saying that this is the hill they are going to sit on and whether we win or lose or draw, I ain't changing my stance that this system is hurting us and I got the receipts to prove it.
The worst thing yesterday was the lack of balance in the team by playing Gomez LB which takes the width away on the left and inverting Trent takes the width away on the right and the coaching staff kept sticking with it till things got desperate. It's either they aren't watching the game. Or they are watching it with their eyes wide shut.

Tactics, Smacktics, if we had put a few of our chances away we would have won comfortably. The whole team + Klopp seemed to approach the game in a lack-a-dasical manner and the finishing was a disgrace, bordering on arrogance. What was the point of Joe Gomez being put on the left?
Both Darwin and Mo should be made watch reruns of Emerdale (The Original Series) as punishment. Actually the whole squad plus support staff should forego training and be made to watch, at least three hours should do.

Polecat, but we did not create enuff clear cut chances and that was due to the tactics so you can't just ignore one side in favor of the other side cos it suits you. The coaches and Klopp screwed up massively cos the tactics played directly into Luton's hands and was esp. helped them neutralize us. As for them watching that show (don't know it) then, sound.

We did create a few. Nunez had one and if i am not wrong both Salah and Jota had one. You talk like The tactics never create chances.
Playing Gomez at LB was with the intention to have 3 center backs at the back.

Ed1, shouldn't by now Trent know when is the time to invert and when it is not. Like yesterday, it was clear that we needed more width to stretch the defence and more overlapping from wide side. Instead of doing that, he just keep going inverted and at one point he was almost playing as a LWB. It is frustrating to see that the players didn't try to tweak the tactics in the middle of the match.

Darwin could have had a hattrick and Salah and Jota could have had one each even though we did not play well.
As for blaming Klopp, the players out on the pitch have enough experience to know what is and isn't working, maybe Klopp should have sensed the attitude of the players wasn't right but regardless there was enough experience on the pitch to sort that out but we had Virgil, our captian, standing with his arms in the air crying for a penalty while the Luton players bombed forward to score.

Polecat, "Darwin could have scored a hatrick" is patently false. Even Klopp in his post game comments said nothing of the sort so that's how I know.
Also, taking pot shots straight at the keeper are NOT clear cut chances, mate. What did you expect the Keeper do? Let them in after seeing them from a mile out. Yes, he missed a clear cut chance and he needs to clean up his act BUT overall, not enuff clear cut chances created except the Darwin and Jota one. That is 2 and had we scored both, Darwin would have score ONE goal but I guess that translates into a hatrick to you.

I think it’s safe to say you could go through every player that played yesterday (bar Allison) and dissect their performance and come up with negatives.
Overall it was a poor team performance and that extends to the manager.
Anyone blaming certain individuals is merely to fit their agenda.

Last season we’d have lost that. We’ve more about us this season. But we won’t win the league until we start beating bottom of the table teams away from home again. I believe we are a high quality DM and CB short at the moment. But then we all know that.

@Habibi, I’ve asked you a million times not to exaggerate- who on this site has mentioned our midfield being packed with Zidanes and Gerrards - apart, of course, from you in your post? If you want to criticise the midfield that’s alright, you are entitled to do so but there’s no need to make stuff up, which is clearly just not true, to support your opinion. Doing it only makes your opinion look weak.
