Is anyone aware of why pep lijnders wasn't a consideration as the next coach?

I did try the search ?.

{Ed002's Note - He was but I understand that he does not wish to be considered.}

Maybe because he wants to manage ajax.

Wow, interesting info ed, and surprising too.

Thank you!

He will be Klopps number two at next job. Already agreed I’d imagine.

Maybe 1jj.

I'm not naive enough to that football always present the full truth to us fans. However, we were told Pep was leaving to pursue a management role.

Based on this, i just find it really interesting to learn that he didn't wish to be considered for the role.

Has he got the intensity? I wouldn’t want him near the wheel alone.

Ye Jay, im not suggesting he is the answer!

I just find it fascinating that he didn't want to be considered while pursuing a managerial career.

Conflicting at best?

Because he will be coaching Bayer Leverkusen. :P.

I think not just Pep but the whole backroom staff will join Klopp on his next adventure. There is no way Klopp will take a year off, he said almost the same when he left Dortmund.

31 Jan 2024 09:12:17
Thank goodness.

31 Jan 2024 10:08:46
It don't add up the entire coaching staff going but my only conclusion is like Klopp they are tired and need a break or could they be joining him?

I don’t think it’s strange that he has said he doesn’t want to be considered - I don’t know if this is true but it would be his first manager job (maybe) - I’m sure I have seen in the past that klopps advise to Gerrard was go and learn your ways, make mistakes and learn from them etc - I’m sure he will be saying the same thing to pep, he is young go and get that experience not in the lime light of the prem. we have all had managers where you look and say oh they do that well, them not so much, if pep takes the role he will be expected to be Klopp 2.0 which wouldn’t suit, well in my eyes anyway.

It would be smart for him to coach somewhere else first - it’ll be a huge amount of pressure for a first gig to take on Liverpool and can you just imagine following on from Klopp? Fair play to him IMO.

Completely agree SGRed.
It’s a massive job to take on for someone with so little managerial experience.
Best for his own development to take a lesser club away from so much spotlight/ pressure.

Interesting note on Lijnders. Thanks Ed.

31 Jan 2024 16:06:38
He did manage somewhere else didn’t he?, a Dutch team I think it was, I don’t think it went well. That’s not a criticism of him by the way.

31 Jan 2024 16:28:35
You're correct, LFC. He managed in the Netherlands for a year before returning to Liverpool

Interesting though that the whole group is announced as leaving. Makes me wonder if they plan on re-joining Klopp at his next club someday.

31 Jan 2024 16:32:24
@FFS - the only way it would be conflicting is if Lijnders wanted the job, which he doesn’t. He wants to be a manager but he doesn’t want to manage Liverpool. At best it’s a nothing story. At worst it’s still a nothing story.

Perhaps he reads this forum, perhaps he doesn’t want to put massive pressure on himself by having to follow an extremely hard act to follow, perhaps he wants to retire to Tahiti and right books on the theory of football. Good luck to the bloke (and the rest of the departing staff), they have been an integral part of a very successful and often as not enjoyable time to be a Liverpool fan.
