So the 'controversy' around our match against Forest rages on

Some pundits are now saying the circumstances leading to our winning goal is a bit a misjudgment but the ref but an obvious ploy against Forest. And that legal actions should be taken and the match replayed in the name of fairness and integrity.

What a great time we live in that men on courage and integrity have now emerged from the abyss and stepped forward to moot such a radical idea.

I just happen to recall that in another game in this very season, a perfectly legit goal was called offside by the onfield ref (it was close, so it's understandable) . It went to VAR and In spite of clear visual evidence that it was perfectly onside, VAR called it off and relayed the message to the onfield ref. When someone called them out that the image they were showing (onside) and their decision (offside) was incoherent, they hid behind protocol and said they can't do anything. Alas, the team on the receiving end of the decision lost the game eventually. Of course, there was still about 70 mins to play and 2 dubious red cards, so the team could be blamed for not digging out a result I was told.

Post match, when the affected club hinted it may explore legal action, many said it's shameful and the club should man up and accept mistakes is a part of life and support the refs and not make their lives more difficult. They also called the club and it's manager disgraceful for suggesting a replay would probably be the best option.

How I wish these men of integrity were born and alive, and had a platform to voice their esteemed and enlightened thoughts to seek redress for the maligned club that suffered such injustice. Alas, they weren't around then and so no one spoke up for the marginalised. If only these men of integrity, courage and justice were around then, I wonder what they would have said? Makes you wonder what a missed opportunity, if only these men of integrity were present. Wrong time, wrong place, wrong club perhaps?

Nothing galvanises the collective boiling of the proverbial than Liverpool success. Enjoy every moment of it.

On a more serious sinister note, Nottingham Forest hiring a refereeing consultant, especially that self-promoting so and so, Clatternburg, is the start of a very dangerous trend. Much like City hiring the team that created the FFP regs, there is only one reason that a club would hire an ex-refereee as a consultant.

Just the fact that Neville himself is saying it's a nothing error, says it all for me

He hates us, and berates us at every opportunity, so for him to actually say that this is a nothing error speaks volumes on its own.

04 Mar 2024 10:51:42
I suspect this situation is designed to be used as 'evidence' of bias when they appeal their points deduction that they will be getting in the near future.

04 Mar 2024 10:55:53
Not sure I’ve heard any pundit call for legal action. Not the serious ones anyways.

57th minute of the game, we have Forest pinned in their own box, Elliott hits a shot which hits Yates on the head and he goes down. Forest clear the ball and we are about to take possession and keep them pinned in.

The ref blows for the head injury to Yates (the ball hit him, it was not a clash of heads), a couple of substitutions happen and the ref restarts the game by giving the ball to their keeper.

Where’s our outrage? We were in possession and they were scrambling around, pinned inside their own box. The ball hits one of their players who stays down and the ref relieves the pressure for them.

I honestly don’t get it. Why is it a ‘monumental error’ for them but nothing said when it happens to us? Ridiculous is an understatement.

04 Mar 2024 11:45:14
Nothing will top Diaz ? they can moan all they want but until you’ve scored a goal. Had it confirmed as a goal by VAR. And then it’s not counted on the score board then unfortunately,

a mistake over a ‘drop ball’ doesn’t quite cut it.

One thing we can have absolutely zero worries about is the match going to replay.

I already said this error is nowhere in the same league as some of the errors this season. Nowhere close.

They will likely get relegated due to poor decision makers at that club.

Instead, you have a club like Wolves who have had far worse decisions against them focus on themselves and persevere.

They lost that game because they couldn't clear a football and time wasted to add on to injury time.

Not because we got goal line possession 2 minutes before the goal.

Crystal Palace can feel hard done by in our game against this.

I took this back earlier but I'm going to reinstate it as I was right in the first place. Nottingham Forrest are a bunch of idiots.

storm in a tea cup for me.

However, calling it a monumental error is only going to make ref's lives harder. I know it was done to create a headline but football will never be 100% correct. We see fouls missed, corners missed, not allowing advantage, yellows missed etc etc. This was an error but to indicate that it's any worse then any of the above is crazy. By creating this narrative and adding this to 'big' errors VAR is going to have a whale of a time the next goal it looks at, how far back do they go? The spotlight when something similar happens (and it will) will be huge.

As for the incident, if Kelleher got the ball and booted it straight to Nunez I'd get the frustration but it was a minute and 50 seconds later. They had possession twice and decided not to boot the ball away when defending. Naivety caused them to lose not a minor mistake by a ref.

Imagine Everton, even after their next points deduction, end in 17th place, just 1 point above Forest. or on the same points but with a better goal difference.

?????.

04 Mar 2024 12:46:40
Why is everybody giving it air? It’s nothing, by defending / denying it it just gives credibility to the absurd notion that there is something to defend or deny. Better to look forward to our upcoming game in Europe and let Forest whine as much as they want. It’s unlikely that we’ll be playing them in the league for a few seasons now.

04 Mar 2024 13:21:03
Absolute nothing burger orchestrated by the media and pundits to make us look bad and try to even things out regarding VAR and PL decisions going more against us than for us, based on the stats.

Make NO mistake about it. That was a HUGE win and everyone knows it hence, a lot of our rival fans are crying their eyes out about it. So is the media who deliberately omit that Tierney did the very same things for both teams and only talking about the Forest part, and not the LFC part. Propaganda it it's best.

Just heard that the away fans were signing, "We haven't won a trophy. Since Sunday afternoon". Like @Formerly_FlyPelicanFly said, "Nothing galvanises the collective boiling of the proverbial than Liverpool success. ". Like my bro, Im here for it.

04 Mar 2024 13:27:01
They should be more annoyed at their air headed players who decided to waste time in injury time. But for that level of idiocy they’d have got a draw. Without that time wasting, the ref is blowing the whistle on 8 added minutes and the goal doesn’t get scored. F around and find out has never been truer.

04 Mar 2024 14:11:44
Imagine us mourning and meltdown many will experience when we secure the quad. Imagine being us. We are the unbearables. And I’m loving every minute of it of us fighting on all fronts still.

Let the ‘pundits’ go into overdrive useless analysis and we’ll take the trophies, the victory tour, and every good thing that comes with it while they continue moaning even until Sep this year.

04 Mar 2024 16:04:09
If a drop ball given wrongly is classed as a "monumental error", what's the correct terminology for the turdfest that happened at Spurs?
"Epic disaster of biblical proportions"?
A perspective adjustment is needed.

04 Mar 2024 17:42:12
They are making a nonsense of the truly bad decisions this year Flash in my opinion. I think the whole thing is a farce caused by an overreaction by an inempt Forrest ownership and media hyperbole.

It was poor refereeing but the refereeing was even all game.

04 Mar 2024 17:45:44
Forgive me for my ignorance, but what has happened that has brought all of this on? What happened during the game and what is being said about it afterwards? What is this "monumental error"?

04 Mar 2024 22:40:12
ArAy think is just a who shouts the loudest case that in most walks of life normally helps. Mean nothing will happen as would open Pandora’s box. But just might subconsciously sway next ref to be more favourable to a decision in next game. Similar VVD disallowed goal in final - mean seems rightly ruled off but coin flip approach to decisions is best way to describe current reffing for every team in the league and seen plenty of similar goals allowed.

04 Mar 2024 23:53:45
As many have said, it's a nothing burger. People point to us playing more than 8mins of added time to show that we have been favoured but that's the norm.

We scored at 98mins 35seconds, meaning that the corner that led to the goal was given to us before the 98th minute. Isn't it common practice to let the attacking team have that last passage of play before full time? Forest had two chances to boot the ball up the field and if they had done so, the ref would have most probably blown for full time. They didn't, turned over possession at the edge I'd their box and allowed us one final attack which we scored from. There's really nothing to all this controversy that the media and pundits are trying to hype up.

05 Mar 2024 01:15:42
In the end, there was an error. That said, I said after the loss to Spuds that these things have a way of evening out.

Who knows if the error actually had any impact on the goal. Ultimately, if things were different, they wouldn't be the same.

You take what's given and prepare for the next match.

05 Mar 2024 05:54:51
It's a nothing error that has just given Tierney the weekend off.

The precedent has now been set, surely.
Would love to know if he's given time off because that single decision, or because of multiple incorrect calls in the game. I doubt we'll hear the real story.

Every single official out there now needs to pull up their socks.
The officials have been far worse this season that this one call.

It's going to be one helluva end to the season!

05 Mar 2024 12:24:16
Honestly I'm amazed at the outrage over this - there are far, far worse things that have happened decision wise every week but this is where the outrage comes from?

Not the Diaz incident? Not the Odegaard 'handball'? The Chelsea 'handball' in the away game? Not Onana clattering 2 Wolves players? Any of the Fernandes play acting? - look most of these are from our games as they're the ones I'm interested in but other clubs have got seriously screwed over this season as well, Wolves the one that really spring to mind.

Proper outrage on this and I'm annoyed over the MOTD coverage as they show not much time elapsing between this incident and the goal - was there not nearly 2 mins of a difference? Did the ball not go out for a throw as well? Did the same thing not happen in the 1st half and they got the drop ball? No mention of any of this?

Honestly, if Kelleher took possession from the drop ball and hoofed it up the pitch and Nunez scored from that kick then you could maybe understand the frustrations, but nearly 2 mins later with how many passages of play?

Honestly amazes me what pundits etc get so worked up over considering the much larger incidents that occur that they choose to ignore or regard with a 'it happens'/ 'mistakes happen - move on' type attitudes.

05 Mar 2024 12:26:03
Greek comedy tinged and turned into a Greek tragedy, Forrest fans are nobs and deserve to be relegated poverty shaming and victim blaming should be highlighted not a drop ball decision that by the way was a free kick and a straight red for Yates, and to see Darwin score the winner after being mistaken for Andy Carrol was pure Greek tragedy unlucky Cloughie now jog on.
