There is a lot of talk about getting Salah out and buying a replacement what about young Ben Doak. I assumed that the natural progression would be to introduce him I know he has had injuries this year but could save us millions.

{Ed002's Note - No. If Salah departs Liverpool will add a replacement from their Hunter/Fellows/Klopp list.}

I think don’t think Ben Doak is going to be good enough to break into the first team never mind replacing Salah.

22 May 2024 10:37:18
You, like a lot of others Longthing probably would have thought the same about Bradley and Quansah. And in fairness to doak, what he showed last year was ahead of what both of them would have produced at 17/ 18years of age We have a player there.

22 May 2024 11:28:15
Just been called up to the Scots squad despite been out injured for months. They obviously rate him highly.

22 May 2024 11:30:21
Will be interesting to see what the new coaching team think about the likes of Ben Doak, Kaide Gordon and Kieran Morrison who all predominantly play on the right side. Can see loans for at least two of them.

Calvin Ramsey will also need to be assessed.

22 May 2024 12:09:55
Ben’s clearly talented but he’s just a kid. Would you want him starting a champions league final? Of course not, he’s just at the start of hopefully a long and successful career but not a Salah replacement.

22 May 2024 12:27:12
Ben Doak is clearly talented. But no way is he ready to step into Salah’s shoes. Ridiculous to even suggest it. Salah is one of the best forwards in European football and has been for years. It requires a like for like, (or at least potential to be) quality player to replace.

22 May 2024 12:39:48
Salah has been one of greatest players of the premier league era and whose output has been utterly phenomenal. The guy has been a world class performer for years. To suggest the club should simply go with Doak as a replacement is just ridiculous, and that is no criticism of the lad himself. He’s played a handful of games for us, of course he’s shown promise, but if you think a club like Liverpool who will hope to be challenging for the league next season can let their top scorer go and not bring in a replacement then you must be mad. Let’s not lump that much pressure of doak, and let’s not over hype the lad just yet. I remember people saying jones was better than Foden a few years back, I like jones but let’s not get carried away with every youngster that comes through.

22 May 2024 13:15:04
Don't think anyone is sugggesting Doak is the prime replacement for Salah just that he's a big talent. there's always a bit of ye never know till they get a chance. Who would have thought Bradley and quansah would be putting it up to an Lfc legend in trent and a centre back who'd featured in the world cup final a year beforehand?

22 May 2024 14:16:28
The problem with dork is final product, ed1 has said this as well, he just dribbles and runs like adama touore (spelling)

22 May 2024 14:29:35
Either way hopefully the lad has a great Euros, convinces some of our fans and our new manager of his ability.

22 May 2024 14:40:57
Like Damien Duff, great dribbler poor production.
Definitely coachable and I’m sure Slott’s team can bring him on.

22 May 2024 14:44:55
Poor is actually harsh on DD.
He wasn’t poor, just didn’t always make the correct decision. Preferred to keep dribbling rather than play the best pass earlier.

22 May 2024 15:00:36
Ed do you know of the clubs plan for Doak? Is a loan likely for next season or is he considered a squad player?

Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware and with a new coach he will likely be looked at in pre-season. Perhaps keep him in the squad as cover.}

22 May 2024 15:04:56
To the people mentioning end product, he played nearly all his games for us at 17 years of age lads. Very high standards yis go by.

22 May 2024 15:43:50
If doak ended up as as good as duff Ron I'd be happy enough! 1 of last top level players ireland has produced.

22 May 2024 17:57:58
But he is that age June and people are asking can he take over from Salah. There is absolutely no chance whatsoever that Ben Doak in the new 2 seasons is good enough to replace Mo Salah.

22 May 2024 20:24:37
He has to be good enough to play on right wing for us mark. once salah is gone he's gone, no point using him as a reference after that. No one is good enough to replace salah, not prime Salah anyway. and we have no way of knowing where doak will be in 2 years.

22 May 2024 20:51:20
Doak not a Salah replacement, on what grounds? That he hasn't played much at top level when he's what? Just turned 18 and been called up to his national side? Well Salah didn't play first team football in the Egyptian leagues until he was 18 and started playing for Basle in Switzerland when he was 20, starting to play for Egypt around the same time. At 22 he went to Chelsea, failed, and only really became a worldie in his mid twenties with us. Far too early to say Doak can't replace Salah. He might be rubbish he might be great. You can't tell when he's barley kicked a ball for christs sake.

22 May 2024 21:39:48
Why does anybody have to be the next Salah? Particularly when a lot of people are saying Salah has been poor since his injury and that he has declined in the past year or two anyway?

Ben Doak isn’t Mo Salah, Arne Slot is Jurgen Klopp. Learn from the past to improve in the future but stop trying to repeat what’s gone before or we’ll just make the same mistakes.

22 May 2024 21:58:26
Calling him a dork is a bit harsh that has nothing to do with his footballing talent. Please let’s not get personal.

23 May 2024 07:36:48
Ooops, meant to say Arne Slot ISN’T Jurgen Klopp.

Also forgot to say Doak is still only 18, he’s a kiddie. We could probably give him another couple of moths before we write him off.

23 May 2024 10:43:07
Lads in fairness though should Salah leave can we honestly say for certain anyone playing rw can replace his numbers?

Look over the years, we always ended up with a great striker who scored goals - Fowler, Owen, Torres - then kinda changed that when we had Sterling, Suarez and Sterling, the goals were more spread over those 3 more (though Suarez scored loads in one particular season) . Then we got Mane, Bobby and Salah and it was mainly Mane and Salah that the goals came through.

What I am saying is that whilst, Doak or anyone else tbh, that replaces Salah may not necessarily score 20 plus goals we could see other positions score more goals as has happened before - the team will simply evolve.

23 May 2024 12:06:04
Exactly bill, Salah got 14 prem goals not counting penalties this season. if someone came in and got 10 in their first season is it really going to kill us. And seeing as Salah was apparently so s#! t this year our overall play may even improve.
