I know people would be happy for Salah to stay. but I can't see our owners letting him run his contract down and leaving for nothing next year . I think that would be a big mistake, surely he got to sign a year extension or be sold.

Agree7 Disagree0

As a business point of view the best course of action would be to sell. I personally don't really give a damn about the money side of things but if we need to sell to buy then yeah, the right offer comes in then unfortunately he'd have to leave.

Only thing concerning me is, where do we get his goals and assists from next season? I know everyone is replaced at some point but Mane wasn't. I fear we could have an issue with scoring goals unless Slot really unlocks something with Nunez or buys someone who hits the ground running.

We have Jota but he can't be relied upon, he knows where the net is but is always injured. Diaz I see leaving. If we are selling to buy I am concerned. We don't have enough to get in what's needed and won't going on 1-2 sales. I just hope Slot is given time because I don't think it'll be easy to begin with. He will need a few transfer windows to be able to compete in my opinion especially if Diaz and Salah leave this summer.

I'm always wrong though, watch. Next season we'll go and win the league.

The power is with Mo at the moment.

I see the confidence on this page is sky high in relation to how Salah and his contributions can easily be replaced. its the same guys who told us all how Lallana, Lambert and Balotelli and change in formation would replace Suarez goals.
We couldn't replace Mane in the last 3 years never mind Salah.

25 May 2024 12:05:30
Tough one. Because of the mass changes off the pitch if we were to sell Salah we’d probably need a right winger and a new Striker to make up the goals.

The right answer usually would be to sell, but Edwards, Ward, the other guy, Slot, coaches, keeper coaches, plus all the squad changes. It might just be a little too much in one summer.

25 May 2024 13:01:34
The owners have zero say in the matter.

25 May 2024 13:05:53
Difficulty is that it’s clear that Salah’s legs have gone and his form tailed off massively at the end of last season, another huge contract puts us in the position Arsenal were in with Ozil and that was not a positive situation to have a player in his 30’s on a huge wage who was in visible decline. I think if a good offer comes in we have to take it. It does leave the question of how we replace the goals and assists, but that’s a lot easier to answer with a pocket full of cash.

25 May 2024 13:09:34
3 players who could be argued are 3 of our most important players are all in the same situation with the negotiation power in their hands.

All 3 would expect huge signing on fees if they chose to see out their contracts.

Not LFC related, but De Bruyne is also in the same situation over at City.

25 May 2024 13:28:07
Have we not replaced Mane though to a certain extent? Sadio averaged 15 league goals a season with us but started almost every game on the left wing. We still get that now its just the goals are spread more between diaz, gakpo and Jota. the sadio of the last couple of seasons was on the wane.

25 May 2024 13:54:44
I wouldn't say give him a 3 Yr contract but 1 year one to protect us. Upto 100 million is a lot of money to lose . I'd love him to stay but we're not Man City etc we need the funds.

25 May 2024 13:58:27
Exactly. Where is Mane now and how many goals
Is he scoring? We replaced him at the right time and now is the right time to replace Mo too.

25 May 2024 14:00:19
I think the great thing with Mane was that he was a big game player and scorer of important goals not only in the league but in the CL.

The players who have come in for him have done well but need to show that they can also do it when it’s needed the most.

25 May 2024 14:11:39
The front 5 scored over 80 goals between them this season, we’ve replaced Mane.

25 May 2024 14:45:17
Yeh, a one year extension would be perfect.

25 May 2024 14:58:51
In order for this team to evolve, Salah has to be sold.

His been awesome for us. Brilliant numbers but that Afcon injury took him a long time to recover, and he will never get quicker or clinical even with the new haircut.

His decline will be a hard watch and because i feel his a proud man, he will want to prove a point every match. And if he doesn't get selected, God help Slot.

Again, his been immense for us but it will make good business sense to sell him.

25 May 2024 15:07:09
Stromsgodset, there are many people who would NOT be happy to see Salah stay as we have seen such people air those exact people so to say "people" would be happy to see him stay as if there is a general consensus is wide off the mark, IMO.

For me, it's a tricky one and also, there is a lot of recency bias as well due to the way Salah has performed over the past few months sinc he came back from injury. Also, there is a world where Big Arne may need to have as many senior players as possible still in the dressing room to rely on their exeperience to navigate his first season or 2 at the club.

Hence if we must keep him, a 1 year extension like @JN said, would be the best case scenario. On the contrary, if we must sell then, Salah has to agree to rip up his final year and leave. At the end of the day, Salah has the final say.

25 May 2024 15:34:21
Burger King is dead right, why would clubs want to buy him when they can sign him for free next year?

The glazing of players not good enough is ridiculous sometimes. Sell
Vvd replaced him with vdb sell Trent and play ramsay, morton can replace thiago, beck can replace robbo it goes on and on and on
Like bk said it’s the same posters who said we could replace Suarez with balotelli and lambert

Replaced mane? Must be earthing a different team he was a diffeeet class, never seen a winger track back as much as he did as well as being a two footer genius, just because it never worked out at Bayern doesn’t make him a bad player just a bad fit.

25 May 2024 15:59:33
And no
I’m not saying these youngsters don’t deserve a chance but to throw them in deep end is crazy move, hope you guys understand English isn’t my prime language.

25 May 2024 17:23:40
I'm sure there is curiosity on both sides. Salah may want to see how he plays under Slot. And Slot may want to see how Salah plays under his tactics and system. So a 1 year extension suits everyone just fine.

25 May 2024 17:58:35
Your English is very good Colonel, don't worry about it mate :) .

25 May 2024 20:05:31
The thing that also has to be mentioned is the possibility of Salah playing for Egypt at the Olympic Games from July through to August. To me that means he’s already going to be knackered by the time the season starts.

25 May 2024 20:47:01
Just to clarify. Which Mane are we on about?
The shot one towards the end, or the 2018 Mane?
Because we have definitely not replaced that guy ?.

25 May 2024 22:12:18
A one year extension will mean he’s running down an extortionate 2 year contract instead of a 1 yr one.

It’s not a smart move.

If Salah wants to run down his contract an extension won’t protect us. If he doesn’t want to be sold it’s just tough.

Probably a good decision by Salah, just not great for LFC.

25 May 2024 22:54:29
Throw any stat at me all you want but we have not replaced Manè. Nunez, Gakpo and Diaz can’t lace his boots.

26 May 2024 08:35:05
@VV, our pre-season games will probably have more intensity than the Olympics’ games.

26 May 2024 12:48:36
Yup. Right. We've replaced Mané. At 3 times the purchase cost, and 3 times the wages to be paid. Since we're supposed to be content with the 3 guys (Diaz, Gakpo and Nunez) who are giving us Mané's goal production.

Sure, we're not supposed to get into the finances. But if you don't consider that in your assessments, then we'll end up back to being mid table has-beens pretty soon once again.
