According to Marcel van der Kraan it might not even come to Sepp van den Berg getting a chance under Slot. He has claimed that Sepp wants to go and play first team football elsewhere and feels his career has been stifled by being a "plaything" to Liverpool for long enough. Assume he's talking about all the loans etc.
If this is the case (and this is still just unsubstantiated paper talk) it is a shame and I think it could be a case of one who got away in years to come. However we don't need to keep players here against their will. Interested to see how this plays out as I've been a big advocate of giving him a chance. I didn't actually consider whether he wanted to stay though!

Why did he sign a new contract less than two years ago then, just as he was going on loan to Schalke? He's only had one other loan since then and don't forget he had a very bad freak injury at Schalke so the priority last year was probably for him to get guaranteed game time. Seems to want to have his cake and eat it. He didn't have to sign a new contract but presumably we were paying him more than the likes of Schalke and Mainz would have done. I wanted him to be given a chance in pre-season and for him to fight for a place in the first-team but I can't be bothered with entitled players with attitude problems. Maybe this is why Klopp never gave him a chance in the first-team.
{Ed001's Note - that wasn't how I read what he was saying. I read it that he was talking about last summer, with not getting a chance so wanted to go on loan. He didn't seem to be referring to this season to me.}

The translation was almost like the kind that you’d get through Google translate so I’m minded not to put too much thought to it as a lot of nuance gets lost in that kind of translation. I think he does refer a lot to last summer. He’s also done an interview very recently where he’s said he fancies his chances this summer. So I think we should prob wait and see what happens.

I’m with Ed001. To me he was talking about demanding a loan move previously when he knew he wouldn’t be given a chance, not that he was demanding a move now.

SVB is in the same boat as Kelleher in that he should be playing first-team football.
No idea if he'll get the chance under Arnie, but presumably everyone will get a shot in pre-season. So, I wouldn't worry about an interview from before the just completed season.
I like really like the idea of promoting from within and am hopeful for him taking his chance like how Quansah has. I would be totally comfortable with a CB group of VVD, Konate, Quansah, SVB and Gomez.
