Liverpool have champions league football next season, that’s a step forward on the last one. Hopefully will help attract some players as well.

Winning the League Cup the way we did is another big step, IMO. It shows our winning me ntality and desire to fight till the end is still intact, something Arne Slot is going to need esp. with the veterans in the squad being key in letting his message get thru to the rest of the squad, IMO.

Seano_ has written an article entitled, What Liverpool FC Should Do

03 May 2024 14:00:40
Good read, Seano.
I agree with a lot of what you said other than a few of the players to be assessed rather than kept or sold. In the same way that Gravenberch and Jota should be sold, Szoboszlai should be kept.
Van Den Ven as well? He’s an athlete rather than a defender.

 1

03 May 2024 14:38:57
Kerkez from Bournemouth would be an ideal left back signing. Is a pretty good two way player (good forward and back) and iraola likes to invert full backs too so it's a role he's played.

 1

03 May 2024 14:55:57
Sell Salah, keep Jota. Other than that I concur, Seano.

 2

03 May 2024 14:58:58
@Lowel - true, but he has the pace to deal with anyone and is physically strong. He’s not the best reader of the game but next to Van Dijk he wouldn’t need to he. That ship has sailed so it’s largely irrelevant but I do think he would have been decent for us.

@Nevada - have heard he is a very good prospect, hopefully we’ve got him on our radar. Do think LB is a key position to look at.

Good read but baj has had the same growing pains injury as gerrard and ibou gets rested by Klopp to much it’s not always injuries, Díaz and Salah can go for me .
Díaz runs into to many alleys and doesn’t cross enough balls for me.

 2

03 May 2024 15:26:48
Agree with all your conclusions for GK, defenders and midfielders, but agree with none of them for the forwards! We just see the game in different ways I guess.

Also think you're being a bit harsh on Robbo and Jota for their injury records. In both most recent cases they've been out bc an opposition player landed on them. Robbo dislocated his shoulder and Jota hyperextended his knee. Hardly their fault.

 2

03 May 2024 17:15:20
Nice one, Seano. On Szobo, I think it is the tactics and the way he is being used that has stifled him. We signed a play who is literally built to play the high press like he did and axcelled at at RBL and here we are having him cover ground defensively and playing in a slow possession system that does not suit him. For me, he is the most athletic mid we have and should be used in the high press under Slot, IMO.

Jota and Robbo? I can see why you want to move hthem on so I can agree with that even tho, I think they still have stuff to offer. All in all like you said, we just need to get 3/ 4 players in the right positions, sort out the GK situation cos Kellerher will want to go and most importantly, our boys need a new motivation, a new message and most importantly as ED01 said, 3Have a new boss to impress again".

03 May 2024 18:38:25
Only from a selfish and atmosphere point of view I hope we don’t sell Jota and he stays fit next season.

On match days the 3 best songs to get the atmosphere going over recent years are the Bobby, Klopp and Jota songs.

We’ve lost Bobby, we’re losing Klopp and if Jota goes as well it’ll be another great atmosphere song gone.

{Ed025's Note - i wrote a song for Jota JK...its called.."! couldn,t trap a bag of cement" mate.. :)

Enjoyed that, really good and agree with a lot especially LB. As for Szbo I understand he joined mostly to work with Klopp, he has said this. Could his drop in form be due to the disappointment? Maybe EDs might know if he had other options and after Klopp announced leaving he may regret choosing LFC?

It’s definitely the tactics that is effecting Szob.

He was much better the first few months of the season when we were playing the inverted full back over the last couple of months where we’ve switched to the inverted full back.

Szob doesn’t know if he’s coming or going.

 0

{Ed025's Note - hes actually fell off a cliff JK, when he first came i thought wow, now im not so sure on him mate..

I think we need a striker who will score the goals that Salah WAS scoring! The days of our wingers getting all the goals are long behind us, as we don’t play that way anymore. Salah will score goals wherever he goes, but it seems that he was being asked to play a lot wider this season. If a good offer which was tempting for all parties came in in the summer, I would be surprised if we turned it down. Jota is our best finisher, but injuries are a big problem. Again, if a big offer came in I would definitely take it. The remaining forwards I would keep, but not to play as a main striker, as they don’t score enough of their chances and are better out wide. Not sure who this free scoring striker is, but it’s where I would I would be looking.

Klopp getting it all of his chest is glorious to see hopefully the referees are next.

 6

03 May 2024 17:16:05
They guy ain't holding back. What are they going to do? Fine him or suspend him? Keep going Kloppo. Give them hell!

 2

03 May 2024 18:37:14
Happiest he’s looked in a while. Pressure is totally off. Legend.

03 May 2024 08:01:50
Someone please help me understand why Chelsea's 1st goal was allowed to stand?

Cucrella CLEARLY impedes the Spurs defender, who WOULD have challenged Challobah for the ball. so why doesn't VAR now step in and give the same call it gave us against Chelsea in the Cup Final

I just don't understand it at times. this cannot be called incompetence. it just cannot!

 7

03 May 2024 08:43:44
Cucrella was not offside when he did this.
Endo was offside when he did this and that is the difference.

 5

03 May 2024 09:50:30
What does offside have to do with it though?

He impeded the player - fair challenge? No, so why would it matter if you are onside or offside if you foul or impede another player?

Just don't get it.

 2

03 May 2024 11:04:07
The last couple posts have shown a glaring lack of understanding of the game.

Offside player - can't intervene at all.

Onside player - can intervene within discretion of what a foul is and the refs discretion.

It’s not illegal to block players.

 3

{Ed001's Note - it is if you move to block them, then it is impeding. If you are just stood still and they run into you, then that is fine.}

 6

03 May 2024 11:14:34
The call against Chelsea was that Endo was offside because his interference made him an active player who was offside when the ball was played, in the same way that a player standing in front of the keeper can be offside. Cucu not being offside means it cannot be given offside. It's as simple as that.

 0

03 May 2024 13:35:13
Happens in every game several times in any game up and down the Leagues. Of course it’s a foul but refs rarely give them unless you’re pulled to the ground and even then it’s not certain. Back in the day the Italians used to just concentrate on the player and not even care where the ball was 🤷‍♂️.

 2

03 May 2024 15:28:49
If the goal has been disallowed for a foul it would have been the softest foul in the history of the game.

 1

03 May 2024 18:31:37
One was offside the other wasn’t. Pretty simple.

 0

03 May 2024 18:39:10
Football will become like netball soon and fans will want players using pronouns after their names for interviews.

 0

03 May 2024 19:12:28
The problem is more and more teams are using blockers and no ones sure when it becomes a foul. Some teams are 'clever' at set piece's were others foul.

 0

03 May 2024 19:24:59
for sure and the ref can determine that but I’m not sure many refs will interpret that as a player completely stood still. We use blockers like many teams and it comes down to the ref. But to the OP’s dilemma the difference for them is the offside means the offside player basically has to impede no one in any way right cos they’re offside. They basically have to make themselves invisible lol.

Time for my yearly rant on kit prices.

Youth top - £60
Youth shorts - £32
Socks - £18

£110 for a full kit.

It's bordering on criminal.

I know schools in the north west that have food banks and offer other services to struggling families.

And before anybody starts I know it's the modern game but I just find that level of greed gross frankly. Charge adults what you like but the youth kits should never be that expensive in my humble opinion.

 25

{Ed025's Note - im with you Wassa..

 11

02 May 2024 19:30:25
Don’t buy it 🤷‍♂️. It’s not necessary to join the gravy train. Doesn’t make you less of a fan, just one with a conscience. Give some of the cash to that food bank instead and sleep easy knowing you’ve made a difference 👍.

 21

{Ed025's Note - good idea that Irish..

 9

02 May 2024 19:43:09
And have an unhappy child who desperately wants the kit and has no understanding of a food bank and later life.

 0

{Ed025's Note - i dont think its buying presents for a child that makes them happy WM, especially if you cant afford it mate..

 16

02 May 2024 19:52:04
Probably all made in sweatshops as well.

 7

02 May 2024 20:15:01
Not arsed myself. You can either buy it or not. That’s the free choice you have as a consumer. Personally I’m happy with my adidas originals 85/ 86 reissue. Timeless classic doesn’t need updating.

 4

02 May 2024 20:25:00
I get dodgy ones from China now for about £10.
I say dodgy, you can’t tell the difference. I took him in it to sports direct and I was comparing them and I couldn’t tell, I almost took it to the till to get a “refund” lol
It means I can get my lad the home and away kits and a few other ones and he can wreck them all he likes playing footie in them. And I’ll be honest, even if I was made of money, I’d still buy them out of principle now because that amount of money for a kids kit is absolutely disgusting and shameful.

 8

02 May 2024 20:42:25
War machine
Your time is the greatest gift you can give your kids. Watching them PLAY football is more important than buying an expensive kit mate.

 14

{Ed025's Note - absolutely Irish..

 5

02 May 2024 20:46:54
To be honest, what self respecting parent would get their kid a full kit, you’re condemning them to being a FKW.

 7

{Ed025's Note - or even worse...a Liverpool supporter.. :)

 7

02 May 2024 21:04:58
Sorry all maybe Im not clear in the point I was trying to make.

Here’s an example:

Since 2016 the Liverpool Foundation has ran the Red Neighbours programme and following a consultation with sixty community leaders in the Anfield, Kirkby and Melwood areas they identified a number of issues on the clubs doorstep. One of those was food poverty.

On the one hand the clubs own charity is assisting with food poverty and then on the other they are charging a ton for a kids football kit.

 5

02 May 2024 20:55:08
Stopped buying them for my kids a few years ago, they'll get much more enjoyment if you buy them t shirts of their favourite cartoon characters etc, depending on age of course and its much cheaper.

Working man's game quickly becoming the rich man's game.

 2

02 May 2024 20:56:52
@Warmachine, for a start kids need to learn they aren’t going to get everything they want in life (and I know, I’ve wanted as Aston Martin fair about 50 years) and secondly we should be teaching kids about what they need rather than what they want.

 8

02 May 2024 21:01:02
Spot on Irish Rover 👏.

 1

02 May 2024 21:35:46
Very easy to get good fakes for a quarter of the price.

 4

02 May 2024 22:08:07
It needs to return as a two year kit, better for the pocket, people can be the early adopters or get it the season after for a discounted price. Plus it’s better from a fast fashion point of view.

I’m fully aware that it won’t though as the manufacturers are on a gravy train.

As for buying it for kids, I don’t see the point, they grow out of it within a year. But I appreciate the peer pressure element of keeping up with the jones’.

 2

02 May 2024 22:35:44
Wassa, clubs don’t set the price of the kits. Adidas/ Nike etc pay clubs the 50-60m/ season (or whatever) to produce and sell the kits. They’re the ones who set the price point.

 5

02 May 2024 22:45:30
two good posts there Irish Rover.

 0

02 May 2024 23:25:17
More chance of it being a monthly kit wy, what with the parasites around football these days. At least in the 90s you had mainly local businessmen. Nowadays you have all the worst and most shady companies with links to all sorts from slavery to terrorism running these clubs.

They sure as hell don't care about our pockets and would ramp the ticket prices up tenfold if it not for the fear of fan rebellion.

 1

03 May 2024 00:09:35
Talking of kits, our neighbours are Bluenoses and with today being a good drying day their child's Everton kit was pegged out on the washing line in preparation for next season's relegation battle, presumably.
Anyway, the Mum came round this evening asking whether we'd seen anything as someone had been in their back yard and robbed the pegs off the clothes line.

 5

03 May 2024 01:48:39
I like the black keeper shirt but wouldn't be given the home one.

 1

03 May 2024 08:26:41
It's bad Wassa but what can you do. The cost to run a football club climbing at an alarming rate.

The costs will never stop rising for us fans until player wages, agent fees and maybe even transfer fees are capped. Clubs barely make a profit nowadays so are they greedy, or are they just trying to cover the costs of greed within the sport?

 3

03 May 2024 10:03:53
Just buy your kids copy kits for about £20/ 30 my son has loads. can't tell the difference.

 2

03 May 2024 12:04:32
Wassa, my kids aren't that into football so all good for me there. Personally, I stopped buying kits 15 years ago when it started costing an arm and a leg and judging by the prices they go for today, Ain't buying nothing any time soon.

 0

03 May 2024 12:19:28
DH Gate! Sod buying at full price! Complete rip off. I bought my kids last kit with his name on the back etc and shorts and socks and was £16. Exactly the same.

 0

03 May 2024 15:15:18
Rigsby I hope there weren't any socks attached to them pegs. One of the funniest things I've ever seen at the match was the Derby in a replay in the fa Cup where every time we got a throw in some fella shouted "SOCKS" and about 20 pairs of socks got launched. But then Everton won in the last minute so the novelty wore off very quickly.

 1

02 May 2024 11:04:51
Question to ed001 I know U never watch much of Feyenoord game but will U watch Feyenoord game from now till end season so that can write a review on slot?

 2

{Ed001's Note - it is not that simple. They are not shown here, that's why I haven't already watched them over the last couple of years.}

 4

02 May 2024 12:52:53
How many games have they got left? 😂
I reckon funny season has come early so I'm going to continue the trend:
do we have an interest in Jadon Sancho? 🤣
The way people are raving about him you'd think he was the next Maradona!
Yeah, yeah, he outplayed Mbappe.
Once.
He's not someone I'd looking to sign. He's not bald enough.

 5

02 May 2024 13:45:54
I watched them last week and they reminded me of the football we played when klopp first took over, only one game though, there's some good videos on youtube about his tactics on a few liverpool channels, redmen tv etc.

 3

02 May 2024 15:15:58
Never watched them play either but after listening to people on podcasts (esp. a a journalist who knows Slot well having interviewed him several times), Slot plays a 4-3-3/ 4-2-3-1 in a high press/ intensity system.

Also as a Guardiola disciple so to speak, he likes his teams to have the ball a lot and plays inverted FB's (Ed01's going to love that, lol) and btw, he loves wingers/ wide men to bits.

 2

02 May 2024 18:12:54
I just hope we can keep it a bit tighter at the back.

 2

02 May 2024 19:32:20
I just hope we can put our chances away.

 2

02 May 2024 20:10:16
Drogie i'm hoping for that too. Least goals conceded in the Eredivisie or maybe second this season. i won't miss the way Klopp teams defend.

 1

02 May 2024 20:58:28
I just hope we try and play football that is good to watch.

 4

02 May 2024 22:53:34
We might stop letting in soft silly early goals, they do my head in.

 2

03 May 2024 10:14:05
Aye Kop, would be nice to stop giving teams a one nil start wouldn't it.
