Are we willing to admit that Slot was right to get the first team on the training pitch for a week and sacrifice the Carabau Cup now?
I don’t care what anyone says the team did not have a proper preseason because they were mourning the death of their friend and colleague whom they lost a few days before preseason started.
Slot needs to take any opportunity he gets to get them all fit and work on team shape and giving them all of last week obviously helped.
I still think we tired in the last 10 minutes and some players looked a bit nervy but that to be expected after our recent run. In the end a good win and a much better performance especially off the ball.
Onwards and upwards.
{Ed025's Note - that will depend on if you win the league or FA cup i suppose Robbo, but you have to stop with all these lame excuses as to why they were not performing mate, these are finely tuned athletes and fitness should not be an issue, it was more about poor set up and tactics than anything and hopefully these are being addressed..

Using a person's death to say I told you so is not a good look. I'm delighted we won but it's only one win. Hopefully we can get a run going now.

Fully and whole heartedly agreed ED25. Poor set up, poor tactics. Went back to what works and it still works. Hopefully lessons learned.
{Ed025's Note - lets hope so SG..

@robbo: I’m calling BS, if you want to use the excuse they are unfit then you have to blame slot and coaches for that. I’d say it was familiarity that team know each other barring Ekitike for Nunez and mama for kellerher it was last years team. We stopped faffing about with the ball and went on the front foot we looked cagey when we never simple.
And no slot wasn’t right for the cup game, Robbo played in that game the same Robbo whose legs have gone? And macca who’s supposedly injured both played last night you telling me Hugo couldn’t have got a run out for 20 mins or gakpo and wirtz?

I’m sorry but I just can’t take BP seriously. I mean the guy waffles and back tracks. He said the players missed 2/ 3 weeks of preseason, not that the players didn’t have a proper preseason. Did we not win all our Preseason games except for 1? Seemed to go pretty well for me ?♂️ He then waffles about getting beat by Gala because their fans whistled really loudly.
I mean seriously? He is literally talking out of his rear end.
Now he’s all cock a hoop because Liverpool won a game, telling all and sundry he was right all along! What a wally ?.
What happens if we don’t win our next 2 games? ?.

The fact if the matter is, we have been poor so far this season. Everton have had their best start in a decade, with Jack flattering for about 20 minutes and they are 15th in the league. Hhmmm.

Scouse John and me don't always agree, that's why I enjoy this site, but I agree with his post.

Nobody is using the death of Jota as an excuse what is wrong with you people?!
It was a terrible tragedy that affected the players as human beings if you can’t see that then there’s something wrong with you!
It’s not an excuse it’s just facts. We all wish with everything we have that it didn’t happen but it did. We have people on here saying they should’ve just turned up for preseason days later and just got in with it.
They did get on with it, they all turned up for preseason training on time but if you think they got straight into a full preseason program you have no idea of morality and humanity.
Irish, just don’t respond to my posts please I really can’t abide your ignorance.

Spot on ed025 mate. The excuses and poor set up and play is the only reason we have been so awful.
02 Nov 2025 12:16:35
The whole squad underperforming was the main reason we lost games.
02 Nov 2025 12:36:38
Agree lad's the tactics are/ were horrendous.
02 Nov 2025 12:42:38
You quite clearly did and that's all I'm going to say on the matter. RIP means exactly what it means. As I said hopefully we go a run of results from here. I said it yesterday I think we will catch Arsenal. No team can touch us when we are in form.

MacA had a hernia and couldn’t play the last coupla games of last season. His treatment and recovery meant that he missed approx 3mths of football and only returned full team training just as the league was starting meaning he wasn’t up to match fitness.
Isak joined the club after the league started and had no football in him for 3mths. Again not up to match fitness. He played 2 games for Sweden, came back then started v Utd and played approx 75mins then days later started v Frankfurt and got injured. That many starts in quick succession was a foolish decision in my opinion.
Bradley had an interrupted pre season due to injury. Frimpong, never injured last season, has picked up 2 hamstring injuries already.
You can see how this can impact a teams performance.

Yeah, it's three months complete rest with a hernia. I've had a couple.
02 Nov 2025 14:28:06
Ed25, many of us have been saying that all season so far. Hopefully, we can keep improving on this path.
@Robbo as for admitting whatever, not bothered right now and besides, you can't really vindicate any decision right now. Let's give it some time before letting the "I told you so" stuff fire off into the ether.
