Slots birthday and we start a European campaign in style. I thought we would hammer them after two early goals. Salah showed us exactly what he can offer and his second goal was class. Was a great performance although VVD and a wonder goal saved me chewing my finger nails. At least Simeone has mellowed with age haha what was that about. We should have scored more but that's football isn't it.
I was watching on TNT and they played a miracle in Istanbul after the match. Can't believe it was 20 years ago. The entire campaign was crazy. The group stages and the Olympiacos game! Then the final. It is a great watch for anyone that hasn't seen it. I think Gerrard has to be my favorite player of all time. I know I'm biased but can anyone name a better game of football to watch than that final, would make a cracking game anytime let alone a European final. Memories came flooding back especially as it looked like it was over going in at half time. Honestly the greatest game to ever be played and what a come back. Watching Dudek on the goal line ?? still feeling nostalgic this morning. my nephew turned up to watch it wearing an AC Milan top, I made him kiss the liverbird badge and gave him a boxing lesson as we smashed in goals in the second half lol ?

It's still incredible that we managed to win that game, we thoroughly did not deserve to with the lineup we had on the pitch haha, it might be the only final I can think of that we've won in the time that I've been a fan that I would really say was a miracle of sheer force of will and belief, that's the nature of cup finals sometimes though.

PB, the 2005 CL final is legendary for the points you made. On paper, it wasn't even anywhere near fair with both lineups. A battering was on the cards and was well on it's way after the first half. And then, stuff happened. The stuff of legends.
Do you know the likes of Nuri Sahin became an LFC fan after watching that final? He said so himself when he signed with us under BR. That is how much that final changed the lives of not just those LFC players or fans who played/ watched it. But for neutrals as well who witnessed a miracle happen right before their very eyes. We were the MOST improbable CL winners of all time Loved it, man.

I'm pretty sure Aguero also talked about screaming his lungs out watching that final? He said he was a lifelong Liverpool fan, which led us in the early days of this board to fantasise continuously about him actually coming here before he ended up at City. same with Arda Turan haha.

Rafa tried to sign a 17 year old aguero. Aguero has been an LFC fan since he was very young. Atlético just offered much better terms than we could at the time due to the Spanish taxation of the time.

Strangest game ever, Liverpool were battered for 120 minutes, with the exception of 6 miraculous minutes. Milan were far superior.
Funniest thing was watching Shevchenkos penalty where Dudek was so far off his line he almost picked the ball up before Shevchenko even kicked it.
Fantastic memory but it would be tortuous to watch the game again. Whereas a game like last night's against Atleti I could watch over and over again, that was a proper game of football with two very good teams going toe to toe for 90+ minutes and the pace of the game throughout was blistering.

Great responses and I agree with them all. I think it aged us all and on paper they looked like some football manager dream team. They heard them celebrating like they had won at half time, costly mistake and shows what a little courage and determination can achieve.
