BS D'or trophy. once again it's proved. How can Salah not win this thing. Proves its all a farce. Its a controversial statement but our players should pull out of nominations knowing it's a joke. Yes I'm seething but just how I feel at this time. I feel for our Mo.

It’s disappointing for him but he probably had his worst 2 games of the season in the two games against PSG that was the decider I think, we’d have won it had we beat them.

23 Sep 2025 01:17:07
Take the blinkers off. Salah had a great season, just not the best season of all the players in the whole world. Dembélé was the best player for the best team in the world, the general consensus is he deserved to win it. I thought Real Madrid’s antics surrounding the Ballon D’Or were embarrassing but what you are suggesting would be infinitely worse.

23 Sep 2025 01:31:10
It's a nonsense award anyway, has been for years.

23 Sep 2025 02:00:17
I’m surprised Messi didn’t win it.

I think dembele produced on the 'biggest stage' when it counted, we all know it's given to whoever won the euros, champions league or world cup, and not domestic league performance. Arguably vitinha was a more important player for them, but we also know they tend to give it to attacking players, and a number 6 won it last year.

Still there is very much a case that Salah could and should have won it, he had an absolutely historic season. I can accept vitinha being above him even if I don't like it, but yamal being number 2 is just totally ridiculous. He had worse stats in a worse league than Salah playing for one of only two or three teams that can win it, and as good as he is are you telling me he's on the same level as mo right now? Maybe in a year or two.

Unless you're telling me that he got in at number two purely because of those two games against inter. which they lost.

Dembele has had one good season in an otherwise anonymous career where he was a flat track bully in a farmers league. Salah has consistently been the best in the premier league for 9 years. Balon D’or is a superficial vacuous award, the fact its gold plated brass mounted on a fools gold plinth attests to that.

23 Sep 2025 06:58:39
Does anyone care? Football is a team sport, I care abouthe proper trophies. Ballon d’or is just a popularity contest, or even more recently, let’s give it to the in form player from CL winner - it is all subjective nonsense anyway.

23 Sep 2025 06:58:51
I do not agree Salah should have won it over Dembele. Statistically and in terms of trophies, Dembele was up there.

I personally think you are being biased toward Salah because he is a Liverpool player.

23 Sep 2025 07:48:30
If we’d knocked out PSG (which we should have done) we’d have won the champions league and Salah would have got the Balon D’or. Maybe if he had have beater the premier league goal scoring record rather than equalling it he may have got the nod or if we hadn’t lost to Newcastle in the final.

23 Sep 2025 08:09:08
he might of flat track bullied his league, but he actually turned up in the big games in the champions league for his team, Now I'm not saying Salah doesn't turn up but to call it a farce or whatever is a bit stupid there was genuinely 3/ 4 players that deserved that award it wasn't like it was for 10 years where it was given to Messi and Ronaldo. Dembele, Vithina, Salah, Yamal personally felt Nuno Mendes should of been top 5 he had a brilliant individual season for a LB.

23 Sep 2025 08:32:57
I can agree with Dembele winning it, but purely because of the logic that the Ballon D'or committee has prescribed for winning it the last decade or so. I personally think Vitinha is more deserving, but I also understand why they would have given it to Dembele.

What I don't understand, however, is Yamal placing above Mo, I just think that is ridiculous. On what basis are they making that call? Arguably even Raphinha had a better season than he did statistically., but Raphinha certainly doesn't deserve to place above Mo.

If you're going to talk about trophies, nigerred, I would say that it would be more difficult for PSG to lose the Ligue 1 title than for them to win it, who else realistically stands a chance? Marseille? Lyon? Lille? Monaco? They were all miles and miles and miles behind PSG last year, the gulf between PSG and their closest competitor is like the gulf between us and West Ham. Sure it's some achievement that PSG won the champions league, but they have unlimited resources and have been building that project the last three years.

Salah had a historic season while changing his style of play, how many wingers have won the golden boot and the assists trophy in the premier league at the age of 32? Past the age of 29 wingers lose their pace and their effectiveness, but he was the best player on the title winning side in the toughest league in the world. Maybe he didn't play well in the latter stages of the champions league, but if that's the only consideration that matters then I think it's an incredibly poor criterion. They should just call the Ballon D'or the Champions League MVP award and leave it at that.

23 Sep 2025 09:15:52
Salah has been consistently excellent for nearly 10 years (including his time at Roma) in that same time period Dembele has been rubbish for most of it, the only records he broke at Barcelona were for how many fines were imposed on him for disciplinary breaches (apparently a club record) .

{Ed078's Note - you do know the award is judged upon a 12 month period?

23 Sep 2025 09:22:34
The Ballon d'Or is absolute nonsense. Given that the PL is by far the best league in the world, the fact that a PL based player has only won it once in over 20 years is ludicrous.

That said, I can't argue with Dembele winning it. For me it could only ever have been Salah or Dembele. Unfortunately for Salah he started on fire but tailed off at the end of the season whereas Dembele started slow and was on fire at the end and that is when the trophies are handed out and what the journos remember. Salah finishing 4th is an insult though.

23 Sep 2025 09:33:21
On a side note- I think we can all argue for days about whether Salah or Dembele was more deserving, but I think we can all agree that Virgil, Mac Allister, Rice, Saliba, even McTominay finishing lower than Cole Palmer, who finished 8th, is idiotic. Palmer was poor for a lot of last year- granted, a lot of that has to do with Maresca being crap- and one can only imagine that he was that high up the list because of an utterly unnecessary and trivial vanity tournament, the World Club Cup.

23 Sep 2025 10:54:51
Its a joke . its seems to not look at the Premier league for anything except to fill the top 10 . Only Rhodri won it recently n the fuss the media, Madrid etc made of it . remember Ronaldo n Messi every year no matter how they played were in the top 2.

23 Sep 2025 13:13:30
Yamal at 2nd got me, seriously?
Dembele I get, great season - had we beaten them and Mo proper performed in those games then may have been different.

23 Sep 2025 13:18:56
Mo deserved the award but not many premier league players get it . It is always someone from barca or madrid from a league that is not as strong as the premier league but Mo is worth more than that little trophy to us reds YNWA.

23 Sep 2025 18:56:10
Personally think Dembele edged it last season. As others have said if Salah had helped us to win the CL it would be no contest. Salah had an awesome season but Dembele just had an even better one.

23 Sep 2025 19:23:40
Gutted, put me last fiver on Ronnie winning it again.
