When it comes to tactics, I think so many fans are ascribing our problems to Ten Haag, and assuming Slot is the same. Just because he is bald and Dutch doesn’t mean he is the same.
Slot clearly likes a hard press, and physical game: it is why he binned Quansah.
The problem is motivational. You have a squad who won, and who are joining, a title winning team. Combined with the loss of Jota. An awful event, but also a tough one for a coach to scream insults at his players.

In cricket, coaches have 2-3 years to brutalise players: same is true in football, but Klopp and Pep managed to break that trend through force of personality. I would venture that Slot has possibly the most difficult man-management task of any manager, and I would like to see him succeed.
There are no easy fix its out there. Alonso no better tested than Souness at Rangers.

I would love to know what our current tactics are and understand our style.

Because I’ve watched this team all season, I’ll be there tomorrow night, and I haven’t a single Clue what this useless system is unless it’s boring pass it around the back slowly and wait to be 2-0 down.

Alonso is a deeply intelligent and reasonable man with absolutely no trace of David Brent in him. He seems to be fairly strict in demanding hard work and sicipline. He also has a deep connection with the city and the culture.

Slot sounds good when he's winning and much less so when he's not.

Following on from such a potent force as Jurgen is nigh on impossible but I just don't see how Arne evolves sufficiently or if he has it in him to be more that way. Being a good coach with one tactic in the bag is not enough.

@Dr B, how many examples do you have of managers who sound good when they are on a losing streak?

How many tactics did Jurgen have in his bag?

Monster you’ve put down our playing style as hard press and a physical… rubbish. We’ve shown neither all season, minus the Real Madrid game. Quansah being sold was because he wasn’t very good for us.

Dr B,

Alonso’s deep connection with the city and the cli must have been weaker than his deep connection with Leverkussen and Madrid.

He had his chance to manage us and he ruled it out to stay at Leverkussen and jump to Madrid 12 months later.

Great player for us, no doubt.

West Derby Wanderer IV - Jurgen protected his players - he always took full responsibility+ jurgens style was very difficult to play against - the evolution under him was gradual but his chosen style worked so it didn't matter so much.

Great managers tweak game to game and adapt, Slot has this one vision which is not working, and is not making the most of any of the new players. Pushing our DM forward and going all out attack in a league based around solidity and set-pieces looks amatuer at the moment.

When we had rough patches under Klopp I remember a lot of posters being frustrated with his press conferences and the "excuses" he was using too, from the wind to the length of the grass. I think it is common for all managers across all clubs. When things are going well, whatever they say is seen as smart, cheeky, candid, etc.

But when things go sour, the same things suddenly become a point of frustration. Same with Slot too. Last season everyone enjoyed what he said during the pre- and post-match conferences. This season everyone wishes that he'd just shut up even though it's very similar things that he's saying.
