The run of defeats are horrible and so different to what we’ve become used to over the past few years but it’s the lack of effort, desire or even ambition that has me feeling most sick. I’ve never wanted a manager to go (except hodgson) but I’m really fed up of slot. I’m sick and tired of his interviews after games. Every opposition goal is down to their good luck and every chance we miss is down to our bad luck. I can’t get my head around paying £150m for a striker and then not playing to his strengths or at least involving him. Btw the way I’m not saying none of it’s down to him, he’s been terrible but tell the wingers to provide for him or they’re coming off and stick to the threat. Gakpo has scored quite a few goals I accept but surely a pro footballer has to have more to his game than everytime cutting inside and shooting (sometimes scoring) but rarely passing.
Kerkez doesn’t even bother to over lap him anymore as he’s NEVER getting the ball and he’s just going to leave himself out of position again. He’s been terrible but why buy a fb that was brilliant last season and then make him play a totally different role. McAllister definitely has to have inappropriate pictures of slot with an animal. He was just unreal last season but he’s just been (no other way to describe it) so so so bad so far this season. No point in even talking about van dijk or konate. We are wasting Ali’s final years and I’m not convinced mamardashvilli is good enough. I don’t blame anyone for not reading this far (I probably wouldn’t) and sorry for the essay but I needed to vent.
{Ed025's Note - im a massive fan of Ali DH but i dont think he was great yesterday either mate, the infection seems to be spreading..

Thought ali poor last nite as well, his worst game in a long time. He got lucky with 1 that hit crossbar as well.
Probably rustiness after injury, no doubt he be back to normal shortly.
{Ed025's Note - hopefully Digger, his kicking was poor as well for him mate..

The only way I can describe it is the slow play is like a poison. Doing things slow doesn't sharpen the mind, and it then breeds complacency throughout the team.
I am all for drawing out the opposition but it feels like we never do anything quick. I remember one scenario with Wirtz where we did to get in the box and then he pulled it into the danger area. I feel very Clarkson in saying this, but speed is the answer. Doing things quick means the opposition has less time to react. Right now we are just playing in front of opponents, make a mistake, get broken through and it leads to a good chance for the opposition.
Then add to that the 4-3-3 doesn't suit the players we bought and it leaves us vulnerable constantly with very little threat.
I thought he stumbled on the way forward against West Ham, but after that woeful 45mins yesterday he reverted back to the system that hasn't been working for the season. Which leaves me drawing the only conclusion that he is stuck in his ways and something needs to give.
I grew up in Leeds, so not particularly looking forward to Saturday as I have an awful feeling we are going to lose and I will not hear the end of it!

100% agree. I’m just saying he’s proven himself to be absolutely brilliant but even he’s looking bad/ less good. The whole buzz/ confidence is gone from the team and the fans. Last year I honestly thought it was wrong at the time. As soon as we had won the league he stopped demanding standards. He let the players fly here, there and everywhere, as did he. That would never have been allowed under klopp, Ferguson, Wenger, Mourinho, Pep or possibly even Arteta.
They would’ve all gone for the jugular and won the league by as many points as possible. I know a 1 point win is enough but winning is a habit as is playing well. Out from the very odd occasion I’d argue that we haven’t played at all well since we clinched the league last season.

It’s not like we have a whole lot of quality in depth in midfield though, particularly midfielders who can actually defend, and even then, Slot clearly has a pathological dislike of defensive midfielders. Was hoping West Ham was a corner, but it feels like a fluke result and an outlier.

I agree with that 25. Spreading. Szobo been decent all season and he was also Miles off it last night.

How is McConnell doing at Ajax? I was disappointed to see him go out on loan, as he’s always looked class - and we look a little light in midfield options.
