A bit controversial, but regarding Guehi,

I have seen a few posters (granted not everyone), vent a bit of frustration with Palace for not being realistic and accepting circa £20m in January as they will lose him for free otherwise at the end of the season.

Unless I am wrong, is this not exactly what happened last year with Trent and Real Madrid?

There were rumours back in Jan they would test our resolve with a similar figure and were discouraged as we would not accept. For the few who are complaining about Guehi, let's remember our views when the shoe was on the other foot.

My personal opinion -> we need a defender, Guehi is clearly the first choice, give Palace what they want (within reason of course) and just get the deal done before his head is turned somewhere else.

If our max offer isn't enough, we then just go in another direction - don't prolong it to the end of January to save a few quid. The place we are in is not worth the risk of not getting in defensive expertise asap.

Have Palace even set a price? Does Guehi want to move mid-season? Does Guehi still want to join us after seeing our poor level so far and the coach's future in question? Given that we expect more than one CB to come in anyway and Guehi will be free in the summer, do we need to prioritise and spend funds on a Guehi transfer fee in January?

It's difficult to predict right now.

Is Guehi really the player we wanted or was it because he was affordable and home grown?

If the latter is the case, then I don't think we should give Palace what they want. If they are unreasonable with their evaluation of a player who has just six months left in his contract then we should look elsewhere. If he really wants us, then we can both wait until Summer when he is free to get the deal done.

I thought we’d agreed a price and terms with both the player and Palace and he was on his way for a medical when Palace, forced by Glassner’s ultimatum, pulled the pin on the deal?

I thought Guehi had given his word about joining us?

I do think Guehi is a player we have at the top of our list, regardless of his affordability or the fact that he is home grown, he is a leader, can cover wide spaces on the left hand side, can step out into midfield, has a great range of passing when virgil is blocked off, and gives us the option of playing three at the back if we really need to.

Guehi has proven this season that he’s high level and would be perfect for us.

20m means a lot more to Palace than it does to us.

16 Dec 2025 17:19:07
Forget what he has left on the contract we're buying him potentially 5+ years which makes £20m a bargain. Any plan b or c will no doubt be north of that without the experience he has.

Having said that if palace make things difficult then hopefully we move on quickly and pick him up in the summer.

20m may not mean that much to palace if it means they go sliding down the table.

17 Dec 2025 08:49:51
Wouldn't Guehi get a larger signing on fee if he were to wait until the summer?

17 Dec 2025 12:18:54
You can’t compare Guehi with Trent. Trent has won everything in the game and Guehi has won one FA Cup.

I think all of these people who are crying out for Guehi will be sorely disappointed and will be the first to call for him to be sold as soon as they realise he’s not actually that good.

We need CBs and he seems to be flavour of the month. All I can say is if someone else was signing him and he’d never been linked with us I wouldn’t be that bothered. He gets a lot of protection in Palace’s system, protection he won’t get at Liverpool and he’ll really struggle in my opinion.

Was going to ask the same thing, FlyPelicanFly. Was there a price already set? Was there a bid we put in or something?

17 Dec 2025 15:05:25
We should buy the palace scouting team, they have bought some great players at great prices why is it that at Liverpool we do not spot these players with potential like Warton who was an hour away at at Blackburn Rovers .

No we let other teams buy these sort of players then we go and pay out multi millions to sign them .
I don't know if this is a Liverpool transfer plan but if it is it is costing the club a lot of money .
YNWA.

@Albeydered as the great Ed02 would say, "Liverpool cannot be sign everyone, at the same time". Or something like that.

Sometimes, we all got to learn to move on.
