Let’s talk about Curtis Jones…
I think he has been a massive part of the uplift in form. His energy. His press. His skill. His ball retention. I’m not the first to say it, but if he was Spanish, nobody would shut up about him. He is the player I most hope to see come good for LFC, and I feel like I’ve been hoping this for the last five years.
But STILL he just cannot quite seem to turn these moments and flashes of excellence into a string of consistent, you-can’t-leave-me-out performances.
I’m hoping this new Slot shape and Salah at AFCON give him the chance to finally cement himself.
Is this wishful thinking? What is stopping Curtis from becoming the Scouser in our *Team* rather than just the Scouser in our *Squad*?

Nothing is stopping him but himself, if he carries on the way he is then for me there is no reason why he shouldn't be starting most weeks.

I really like him, and feel like he has always just been one or two levels below being superb. But, cometh the hour cometh the man. Maybe now is his time to step up find the string of consistency be excellent, help ND lead the team snd stay injury free. Fingers crossed!

Curtis Jones most impressive attribute recently has been his hard working press. He’s taken a page out of Szobo’s book and playing with a greater intensity. The things that keep in him in the team for me are letting go of the ball quicker, more assists and more goals.

After the Everton derby game last season, I tipped Jones to have a Jordan Henderson style turnaround in his fortunes. I genuinely think he can go from being a much maligned squad player, to being the vice captain or maybe even captain one day. The way he speaks after games, he is clearly a leader. His work rate and passion to play for Liverpool is something you can't coach or manufacture.
His fitness is what has held him back up to this point. I don't even bother talking about him with most other LFC fans because he just gets so much grief and you can't argue with people who've made their minds up. It's staggering because like you say, if he was Spanish, Dutch or French I agree with you; a lot of people would be saying the sun shines out of his backside.
He's not world class. Neither were Hendo or Milner though. What he is, is a leader and a hard worker who has enough quality to fit into an elite level team. You need players like Jones to knit the superstars together on the pitch.

Injuries tend to stop him unfortunately. Then he takes a while to get up and running to this level. he's been brilliant though and should be starting atm.

He's a squad player, for me. I'd say the same if he was Spanish, Dutch or French.
I always feel there's an injury just around the corner with him, too.

He made a point in the post match interview the other week about there not being enough intensity and willingness to run.
Since then, when on the pitch, he has lived up to his word and won his personal battles on the pitch and ran until it was his time to come off. Sometimes the simple things can lead to the bigger things happening.

When was he last injured?
16 Dec 2025 09:12:20
I've always backed him on this site when folks have said that he's nothing more than a midtable player. He has superb qualities- he is a very intelligent presser, more often than not he is always looking to play the ball through the lines, he is so confident receiving the ball in small spaces, and he can always buy himself some time and space with his feints, dribbling and close control, besides being deceptively strong and quick.
Add to that the fact that he seems to be developing a real understanding with Wirtz. I don't think he is a nailed on cert to start every game for us, but right now at this present moment he is as close to that as you can get on current form.

CJ over Macca right now. Macca ain't doing nothing for us currently.

I have always rated Jones, for me is is technically sound and press resistant. His issue is he holds onto the ball too long at times, despite having the ability to play it sooner and he picks up niggling injuries.
For me, he is a great squad player, and he helps to add an element of control in midfield (when in form)

He's a squad player for me but still a very useful one. We need people like him in the squad, players who are willing to sit on the bench and come off to give the "super stars" a rest. Or to start games when those same players are injured or out of form.
He's still weak in the tackle and releases the ball late so he can be upgraded on. But he always gives his 100% and I for one am glad that he is our player. And like I said multiple times before, I'd rather lose Macca over him if given a choice.

I think on his day Curtis is a really good player. For me, the main thing stopping him from being great is his tendency to hold on to the ball too long (and then sometimes lose it in dangerous positions) . If he can play more 1 or 2 touch stuff and stop holding the ball and ignoring his team mates when they are making great runs then he can be great.
He definitely deserves to be in the team over Macca right now. Why he (Macca) is getting so many minutes is baffling to me.
16 Dec 2025 11:25:56
Love him. Should be vice captain atm then next in line for captain.
16 Dec 2025 12:28:44
Curtis has always had the talent. And every season he has a little run of games where he looks like a world beater. He then gets injured.
If he can avoid the injuries then he can be much more impactful.
However, until he learns to release the ball quicker, he's going to struggle to be a guaranteed starter in a team chasing major honours. I would like to think the coaches would identify and work on that with him given the potential.
16 Dec 2025 15:36:31
Jones was also a spectator as Leeds walked the ball into the net for their second last week. I don't see that as captain material. He has moments of Vitinha like brilliance then kills a counter holding onto it or not seeing the pass.
16 Dec 2025 18:13:18
@the boot room, Totally agree. Needs to add goals to his game to get to the next level.
16 Dec 2025 18:51:08
WDW, he went off against Brentford in October, if I recall.
He's not a regular starter but he picks up a lot of knocks.
16 Dec 2025 18:54:51
If we are to improve then it won’t be with Jones in the starting 11, I’m pretty certain about that. Jones, Endo and Macca are the midfielders we need to upgrade on.

Curtis has always had it in his locker . sometimes he just seems to coast through games . remember his good spell what got him an England call up, that's how he's playing now . we all know Ed025 has his pictures on his bedroom wall.
{Ed025's Note - those pictures are on my dart board Strom, hes actually played ok the last couple of games but as they say even a broken clock is right twice a day mate.. :)
