who else thinks Liverpool made a big mistake spending the amount in the summer on their transfers? The reason being we need probably two center backs, a right back ( back up) left back (back up) defensive central midfielder, right winger which will cost a lot of money and having spent millions will we break FFP by spending for the positions I have mentioned and players leaving .

YNWA.

We have two RB's and LB's, RW we have cover options but will eventually need someone when Mo moves on. Remember we sold a lot as well. The summer was a good one, you can't always plan for injuries.
Mo if sold in the summer will bring a fee as would someone like Macallister. I wouldn't worry about finances, we are in a strong position.

I don’t remember anyone complaining at the time. We needed to bring in players and we brought in (probably) the best money can buy in each position.
I’m sure if the club had the gift of hindsight then spending what they did on Isak last summer wouldn’t have happened, considering his poor form and fitness and also the fact he got injured for most of the remaining season.

Just watching Frimpong, Wirtz and Ekitike putting Wolves to the sword and looking like huge value for money.

27 Dec 2025 15:53:53
No im made up with who we bought. If we had gotten Guehi as well, (which was only due to Palace messing us and the player about) we’d be doing fine.

27 Dec 2025 15:53:56
We’ve made good signings, but as you say we didn’t cover cb or right wing. Hopefully January will fill that gap.

27 Dec 2025 15:54:35
We do not need a right back. We already have Bradley, Frimpong, plus Szobo/ Gomez who can deputise. How many players do you want for that one position? Granted the injury record of Bradley is not the best, but Frimpong hardly ever got injured before moving to us, and in time, I expect him to get back to that level.

Again, we have Kostas/ Robbo as backup LBs so I don't see why we need a LB. We do need possibly two CBs if Gomez leaves, and a midfielder. I don't think Slot wants a DM, so no point looking for one, unless there is a change in the dugout at the end of the season.

Whinge whinge whinge. Nothing wrong with the summer signings whatsoever. If the manager can't use the squad we have fully, that's on him.

27 Dec 2025 16:15:32
Once Gomez, Tsimi and Robbo have moved on, they will need replacing but the focus was on countering the low block.

27 Dec 2025 17:07:14
Well apparently we still have money to spend, so if we don't buy anybody in January it's not because of financial regulations.

27 Dec 2025 17:13:49
Its the clubs fault with all the new signing getting done all at once, should have been done gradually. you never let 3 first team starters run the contracts down at the same time it just creates uncertainty, they then let 2 forwards leave knowing the sad news of jota but we definitely needed the players we got but needed at least one more midfielder imo.

27 Dec 2025 17:23:41
The club indicated that the summer window would be the start of a process that would cover the windows for the next 2 or 3 years. If that’s the case then there is still work to be done on the squad and we aren’t looking at the finished article.

I should imagine the club has a pretty good idea as to what they want but, as they say, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

27 Dec 2025 18:00:21
TAA/ Diaz wanted to leave, Robbos legs were gone, Darwin wasn’t good enough, Diogo (RIP) was perpetually injured, Salah was getting on, Konate (thankfully) showed no indication he would sign a contract.

Albeydered, LFC didn’t need back up full backs, they needed starting full backs, two strikers a midfielder and at least one CB. They got one of the best LBs in the league last year, one of the worlds best strikers, Wirtz who I think will be a world class addition, Eki who all signs indicate will be a worldy and Frimpong who has had a slow start but had his best day today after coming back from 2 months out injured.

I very much doubt anyone thought at the start of the season that this was money badly spent. They were all needed for reasons explained above, and will all come good.

The two problems are, so many were needed for various reasons at the same time, and the signing of Guehi couldn’t get over the line.

Knowing all those signings were essential, are you saying LFC should have spent lesser on lesser players? Who do you think should have been signed instead.

Ridiculous post, we were all ecstatic when those signings were announced.

27 Dec 2025 18:05:50
We have 4 CB's on the books. Shame Leoni who looked really good is out for the season. I just would have made sure Gomez was sold last summer and someone (was meant to be Guehi) coming in. Likeable lad but should be gone years now. Not good or robust enough for Lfc.

27 Dec 2025 18:28:46
@albeydered, did you feel this way in the summer? If the answer is yes then, fair dues. Now if the answer is no then, let's not start reweriting history just cos the outcome did not pan out the way you wanted.

We soigned the players we signed to replace those who had left and add creativity to our midfield. We needed a CB and brought one in and the other one was having a medical at AXA till his manager spat his dummy out. You're going to blame the club for that? Surely, not.

Lastly, we have the players to play a lot better cos we have seen them play in a diff. suystem that suits them like vs RM, Villa, Atleti etc. It is the manager's poor decision and his doubling down on stupid that got us here. Not the transfer window nor the players we bought cos ANY club in the PL would have taken those players we signed and that includes City.

Nothing wrong with a bit of hindsight. I was extremely pleased with our transfer window in the summer and thought we would be challenging for all four trophies. Midway trhiugh the season however we have dropped out of the Carabao cup and are fourth in the league. In hindsight, I'm now thinking if we would have been better served if we didn't sign Isak but instead got someone like Cunha instead. I liked him when he was at Wolves and thought at that time that he'd fit us very well. Still, I wasn't too displeased that we got Isak in instead but it hasn't worked out so far for him.

Our other signings have been good though. Enough has been said about Wirtz and Ekitike. Kerkez especially had a rough start but he has slowly settled as he got more and more games. Frimpong as well has slowly gotten used to the league. What happened to Leoni was unfortunate but he did look good in the 70mins that he played for us.

{Ed001's Note - Cunha is a Man Utd fan and once they showed interest he rejected all other offers to go there. I do agree though, great player.}

Halfway through the season and out of the Carabou and 4th in the league is not really the disaster you are suggesting tho, Dracred.
